A successful inaugural St. Matthew’s 5K was held at the Lutheran church on Saturday morning. Chad Snider and Acquawon Stallworth took the top finishing spots while church member Judy Gainey was the recipient of the proceeds for the event. St. Matthew’s chose to support Gainey’s ongoing battle with cancer issues.

Snider took the top overall spot with a time of 20 minutes and 8 seconds, while Triton Miller was second in 22:23. Stallworth led the women with her clocking of 22 minutes and 23 seconds, edging out Florelay Brown’s 22:48.

The top male in the fun run was Carson Ritchie with a time of 3 minutes and 6 seconds. Bronwynn Jones led the girls in 4 minutes and 10 seconds.

Race Director Robert Sweatt said, “The first ever St. Matthew’s 5K Run/Walk and Fun Run was a great success due to the runners, the volunteers, members of the church and community and the grace of God. Everyone came together for the common cause of helping Judy Gainey fight cancer.”

Thrivent Financial donated supplemental funds and the event had 19 significant sponsors.
