Two members of an Enochville family with a history of heroin related-charges have been arrested again on heroin distribution charges, according to the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office.

The arrests on Friday followed a joint investigation by the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office, Kannapolis Police Department and the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.

Charged were Zachary T. Rumple, 25, and father Christopher Todd Rumple, 47, who goes by Todd.

Zachary Rumple was released on $1 million bond in March after being charged by Kannapolis Police with 10 counts of trafficking in heroin and maintaining a vehicle for the sale of a controlled substance. The arrest followed the seizure of more than 100 grams of black tar heroin.

After Zachary’s March arrest, investigators say they learned he was continuing to distribute heroin and had moved from Rockwell to his parents’ home briefly, and then to the 200 block of Liz Cortland Road, China Grove.

Undercover police officers and information sources bought black tar heroin from Zachary Rumple and from Todd Rumple, of the 500 block of Carter Street, Kannapolis, on several occasions that were audio- and video-recorded, the report says:

• On May 28, the report says, an officer bought 3 grams from Zachary Rumple on Beaver Road in Kannapolis.

• On June 5,the report says, an officer bought 5 grams from Zachary Rumple on Juniper Road in Mooresville, in Iredell County.

• On June 17, the report says, a source bought a quantity of the drug from Zachary Rumple at a location in Kannapolis, in Cabarrus County.

• On June 26, 2015, the report says, a source bought 4 grams from Todd Rumple at his house in transaction arranged by Zachary Rumple.

On Aug. 30, the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office received complaints of Zachary Rumple selling drugs on Cavin Lane, Kannapolis.  Deputies tried to stop Zachary in a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee, but he fled to his father’s house. A quantity of black heroin was found discarded a short distance from the house. Zachary was not charged in the incident.

On Friday, the Rowan Sheriff’s Office and Kannapolis Police set up surveillance after the Sheriff’s Office obtained search warrants and stopped Zachary and Todd Rumple leaving Liz Cortland Road.  Both men were arrested and charged in the string of heroin sales.

Seized during the traffic stop was approximately $3,000 found on Todd Rumple, and $2,470 and drug paraphernalia found in the search of the Liz Cortland Road house.

Investigators searched Todd Rumple’s house and seized $6,520, assorted handguns, ammunition, high-powered rifles and shotguns, and a “hide-a-can” with plastic bags containing what appeared to be drug residue.

Zachary Rumple was charged with five counts in Rowan County: selling heroin, delivering heroin, possession with intent to sell and deliver heroin, trafficking heroin by possession and conspiracy to traffick heroin.

In Cabarrus County, he was charged with one count of selling heroin and one of possessing with intent to sell and deliver.  Charges are pending in Iredell County.

Zachary Rumple was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $2,050,000 secured bond.

Todd Rumple was charged with two counts in Rowan County: trafficking and conspiracy to traffick heroin. He was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center. He has posted his $500,000 secured bond and been released.

Another member of the family, the younger Brandon Lee Rumple, called by some the drug kingpin of Enochville, is in prison serving a 15-year sentence on Cabarrus County drug charges.
