An East Council Street woman was charged on Monday with inhaling air duster after she was found sitting inside a convenience store bathroom.

Salisbury Police charged Amanda Michelle Webster, 36, of the 800 block of East Council Street, with misdemeanor inhaling fumes for purpose of causing intoxication.

An officer responded to Murphy’s Express at 1010 Freeland Drive just before 8 p.m. because of a possible intoxicated woman in the restroom. When the officer arrived the woman was sitting crossed legged on the floor.

The officer tried to find out the woman’s name, but she didn’t immediately respond. A report said the officer initially believed the woman had an inhaler between her legs, but upon closer inspection the officer saw it was a can air duster.

“He took the can from her. She tried to fight the officer by slapping at his hand,” said Police Capt. Brian Stallings.

The store personnel told the officer Webster had been inside the bathroom for an hour. The clerk checked on Webster and decided to call police when she saw the woman sitting on the floor.

Police say Webster took the air duster from Walmart.

She was issued a written promise to appear in court in August. In March, Webster was convicted of inhaling fumes for intoxication and larceny. In 2012, she was convicted of selling a schedule II and selling a schedule VI.
