Little League Softball: Rowan 9-10 team wins state

Rowan Little League’s 9-10 softball team won the state championship.
In the first three games in the state tournament in Wilmington, Rowan beat Rutherfordton 17-0, rolled 13-1 against Roxboro and shut out Transylvania 11-0.
Pitching for Rowan were Madelyn VonCanon, Karsen Simpson and Kenadi Spoul
Rowan won 8-0 against Wilmington in the championship game. Emma Clarke walked, stole second and third and scored on a pass ball in the first inning, and Rowan held that 1-0 lead until scoring seven runs in the sixth.
Bentli Meadows was hit by a pitch to start the sixth. Kenadi Sproul beat out a bunt to put runners on first and second. Madelyn VonCanon hit a deep fly ball that scored herself and the both baserunners.
VonCanon pitched a one-hitter in the championship game.
Rowan is coached by Elizabeth Clarke, Johnny Meadows and Garren Harris.
The Rowan team will leave Friday to represent North Carolina in the regional tournament in Clarksville, Tenn.
