Gilreath Wins Inaugural Salisbury Cross Country Series 5K

On a very warm Thursday evening with temperatures still hovering around 90 degrees, Gil Gilreath

won the Salisbury Cross Country 5K with a time of 18 minutes flat and Matt Jordan-Steele was second in

19 minutes flat. The race was held at Salisbury Community Park.

Josie Heglar won the women’s race with a time of 23 minutes and 3 seconds. Susan Muth was the

runner-up in 23:49.

Title sponsor for the race was Ralph Baker Shoes. Other sponsors included Novant Health, the

Salisbury Rowan Runners, the City of Salisbury, Brian’s Grill and Mr. Cone.

All proceeds for the event will go to fund the Catawba College cross country team. Race director

and Catawba cross country Coach Jason Bryan said, “Great things are happening in cross country at Catawba

College. Everybody who came out to race on a warm evening will have a part in that. Thanks to the

participants, sponsors and volunteers.”
