Area Sports Briefs: Intimidators, Southern Rowan win; Seager on fire

Kannapolis Intimidators pitcher Yelsimon Peralta was as strong as SPF 50 on Thursday in six shutout innings against the Hagerstown Suns.
The Intimidators (22-25) won 4-0.
• The Cleveland Indians recalled Jerry Sands to the major leagues on Thursday.
• Corey Seager (NW Cabarrus) went 6-for-6 with six RBIs for Oklahoma City on Thursday. Seager raised his batting average to .324 at Oklahoma City.

Legion baseball
Southern Rowan defeated Davidson County 8-4 on Thursday at Holt-Moffitt Field.
Southern Rowan (4-1) got four hits from Eric Stowe, three hits from Chandler Corriher and two RBIs each from Owen White and Matt Honeycutt.
Matt Brown pitched six innings. Matt Saul homered.
Justin Freeman pitched six innings for Davidson County. Zach Queen had three hits.
• Southern Rowan is back in action Saturday against High Point in an American Legion tripleheader hosted by Kannapolis at
Northwest Cabarrus High.
• Rowan County starts its American Legion baseball season Friday at home against Randolph County at 7 p.m. Friday.
Rowan plays Cherryville at 4 on Saturday at NW Cabarrus. Kannapolis plays Kernersville at 7.

Local golf
Frank Adams III, of Salisbury, shot a 4-under 67 on Thursday in the first round of the eGolf Tour’s Biggs Cadillac Buick GMC Open.
He is tied for sixth and trails leaders Bo Andrews and Cory Whitsett by four shots.
• The annual Grace Rodgers Spring Handicap Tournament was held at Corbin Hills on Tuesday and Thursday.
Karla Swanson was the winner with the lowest net score. Beth Calhoun had the lowest gross score.
Ruth Bowles was the winner in the first flight with the lowest net score. Faye Cline posted the lowest net score in the second flight, and Monica Green had the lowest net score in the third flight.
• Teams from Warrior and Piney Point will battle this summer in head-to-head contests.
Warrior will host Piney Point on June 7 and June 25. The team from the Warrior will be playing at Piney Point on July 12 and July 18.
There is an optional team practice at Warrior on Saturday from 3-4:30 p.m.
