The Town of Landis is cracking down on nuisances around town.
The town’s Board of Aldermen unanimously approved an ordinance to prevent and end public nuisances, such as messy, junky or unkempt yards.
No one spoke during the public hearing.
“It’s been a long time coming,” said Alderman Dennis Brown. “We’re going to clean this place up.”
The board also approved $499,000 for its new meter system, which will allow the town to monitor Landis residents’ water and electric usage electronically. The Department of Natural Resources provided a grant that pays for the water piece of the project.
The board received the town’s projected general fund revenue for the 2015-15 fiscal year. The town’s revenue is estimated to come in at $2,878,369 – roughly $50,000 higher than last year. The board will discuss its revenue, as well as its expenditures at a specially called meeting May 13 at 5:30 p.m.
A 1994 garbage truck, a 1997 ladder truck and a 1989 International truck were declared as surplus.
The vehicles were “old and outdated,” said Town Manager Reed Linn.
No one spoke during a public hearing about the voluntary satellite annexation of property at the intersection of Old Beatty Ford Road and Dial Street, and the board unanimously voted to annex the town-owned property. The property was given to the town by the D.C. Linn family.
There were also no comments during a public hearing regarding the initial zoning for another piece of property gifted to the town by the D.C. Linn Family.
Located at the intersection of South Beaver and South Chapel streets, the board unanimously voted that the property initially be zoned as single family residential.
