Rowan weather: A chance of melting

Published 7:33 am Thursday, February 26, 2015

We’re lucky the forecast was off again, since we did not get the 11 inches of snow predicted late yesterday.  What we did get is very pretty, but the weight of the snow has downed trees and power lines and some people are without power — or heat.

The snow started almost on cue around 8 p.m., coming down in large flakes that have amounted to between 5 and 8 inches of snow around the county. The 7:30 a.m. temperature is 32 degrees.

Today will be mostly cloudy with a high near 36 and north northeast winds at 5-8 mph. Tonight will be down to 25, so anything that melted will refreeze, making for dangerous roads in the morning.

Friday should be partly sunny with a high of 39, which should take care of a lot of the snow. Friday night, it’s down to 20 degrees with that north northeast wind at 5-7 mph again.

Mostly cloudy skies are expected Saturday, with a chilly high of 36 degrees and east northeast wind around 8 mph. The low Saturday will be 22.

Sunday, too, will be mostly cloudy with a high near 40. A 40 percent chance of rain moves in Sunday night, with a low around 37.

That 40 percent chance of rain sticks around for Monday and Monday night, but the high will be a balmy 57 degrees, and the low around 37.

The chance of rain goes up to 50 percent for Tuesday, with a high near 50. And it goes up again, to 60 percent, for Tuesday night, with a low around 42.

Looks like more rain Wednesday, with a 60 percent chance and a high near 59.
