In Friday’s 62-8 2A Central Carolina Conference rout of West Davidson,  North Rowan put up the second-highest point total in school history.

The NCHSAA’s new mercy rule   — a running clock when a lead reaches  42  points in the second half — came into play after the Cavaliers (6-2, 2-0)  stretched their advantage  to 48-0 in the third quarter.

The Cavaliers produced a 34-point second quarter, which  may be a school record. Even when North Rowan mashed  South Davidson 74-0 in a 1A Yadkin Valley Conference game in  2012, the Cavs’  biggest quarter was 28 points.

• Senior Alexis Archie went 8-for-8 in the passing game on Friday and surpassed 1,000 passing yards for the third straight season.

Archie had a 28-yard TD pass to senior Charles Watkins, who made his first reception of the season. Archie has 12 TD passes this season and 41 in his career.

• Watson, Keance Miller and Dennis Davis (fumble return) had the first TDs of their careers. against West Davidson.

• Shrine Bowl pick Jareke Chambers obviously could’ve had a bigger game, but he sat down with 111 yards on 11 carries. He has 970 yards for the season and is close to being the first Cavalier with three 1,000-yard rushing seasons.

Chambers also was named homecoming king.

Salisbury

Receiver Will Steinman’s return from a shoulder injury boosted the Hornets in a solid 30-20 CCC victory against Lexington.

Steinman caught an 18-yard scoring pass from Riley Myers and also had a 38-yard reception on a night when the Hornets didn’t have to go to the air very often.

Steinman has nine catches and four TDs in the three games in which he’s been healthy.

• Defensive lineman Desmond Millsaps has impacted the last three games with 20 tackles, six for loss. He’s had two tackles for loss in three straight outings.

• Jordan Oglesby recovered a fumble for the Hornets against Lexington.

• J.C. Burton,  a senior linebacker who leads the Hornets with 12 tackles per game and  seven tackles for loss, was named homecoming king.

• Junior halfback Antwond Glenn produced a career night with  203 rushing yards against Lexington and banged out four straight 100-yard games for the Hornets (3-5, 2-0).

Carson

Carson (3-5, 2-3) has two 1,000-yard rushers already.

Darren Isom had a career game in a 35-26 SPC loss to Concord with 221 rushing yards and four TDs. Brandon Sloop (1,079 yards) and Isom (1,022) now rank 1-2 in the county rushing stats.

South Rowan

The Raiders (2-6, 1-5) were shut out for the second time in three games in Friday’s 21-0 SPC loss to Central Cabarrus.

The Raiders were shut out just once  last season — by Central Cabarrus.

Central Cabarrus’ defensive coordinator Daniel Crosby is a South Rowan graduate.

• South Rowan’s defense played well. It was a 7-0 game at halftime.

• South Rowan still  leads its series with the Vikings 10-5, but Central Cabarrus has won the last four.

East Rowan

Samuel Wyrick’s last completion in a 59-14 SPC win against West Rowan put him over 5,000 passing yards for his career.

He’s only the fourth in county history to reach that plateau.  The others are North Rowan’s Mario Sturdivant and Mitch Ellis and  West Rowan’s B.J. Sherrill.

• East Rowan (4-4, 3-3)  has put up 50 or more points in back-to-back games for the first time since 1959.

The Mustangs’ 59 points against West Rowan weren’t far off the school single-game  record  achieved by the first East Rowan team in 1959.  The 1959 Mustangs beat Troy 67-13  in the record-setter and  also broke 60 on two other occasions.

That 1959 East Rowan team still holds the school record with 39.4 points per game. The 2014 Mustangs are averaging 37.8.

• Max Wall had a huge first half against West Rowan, with a 50-yard run, a pass to Seth Wyrick for a touchdown, and a punt return to set up a score. Ironically, Wyrick broke the school career receptions record on a TD pass from Wall.

• Willie McCree had his third interception and is tied for the county lead.

West Rowan

The Falcons (6-2, 4-1) have to pick up the pieces after the lopsided SPC  loss to East Rowan .

The Falcons had not lost a game by such a large margin since they were buried by A.L. Brown 54-6 in 1998.

The school record for points allowed by a West Rowan team remains the 63-7 loss to Davie in 1965.

• The Falcons’  setback   was  their first home loss to a Rowan opponent since East Rowan won 31-15 in Mount Ulla in 1998, Scott Young’s first year as head coach.
