Averett kicker wins conference award

Averett junior Hobie Proctor (West Rowan) has been named as the USA South Conference Special Teams Player of the Week.
Proctor made three of four field goal attempts, all three of his PAT attempts and averaged 44.7 yards per punt in a 34-30 conference loss to N.C. Wesleyan on Saturday.
Proctor’s field goals were from 32, 27 and 29 yards away.
Proctor was honored for the second time this season.
Proctor is 6-for-10 on field goals this season and 12-for-13 on PATs. He’s averaged 37 yards on 21 punts, and he’s averaged 49.4 yards on 24 kickoffs.
As a senior at West Rowan in 2011, Proctor kicked seven field goals and 39 PATs.
• In the South Atlantic Conference, Catawba didn’t have any weekly award winners. DB Mark McDaniel (South Rowan) was the Indians’ SAC Defensive Player of the Week nominee, while QB Mike Sheehan was nominated for offense and DB Rai Smith for special teams.
Honorees were Carson-Newman running back Andy Hibbett, Newberry linebacker Taylor McDonnell and Newberry returner Kevin Miller.
