Catawba camp starts today

Catawba football coach Curtis Walker announced the fall camp practice schedule.
All practices are open to the public. Walker and his staff invite the community to come out and watch as the team prepares for the upcoming season.

2-4 pm: Check-in at Hayes Field House

Randy Davis made a hole-in-one at Rolling Hills.
Davis aced the 131-yard No. 7 hole with an 8-iron. Witnessing the feat were Eddie Bowers and Richard Jarnagin.
• Country Club of Salisbury Member/Member results:
A three-team sudden-death playoff was needed to determine the winner of Flight 1. The team of Craig Rae and Clint Miller prevailed on the first hole as Craig made a 35-foot birdie putt.
Finishing second were Lee Frick-Troy Beaver and Bryce Beard-Will Troxler.
Four teams went into a playoff to decide a winner in the Second Flight.
A birdie putt on the first playoff hole by Wally Eidson won it for him and partner Kyle Venrick. Tied for second were Jim Michael-Todd Bell, Greg Alcorn-Bryan Overcash and Brandon Frick-Nathan Frick.
The winner in the Third Flight was the team of Bob Oswald and Ken Reid . They edged Kris Jimenez & Neal Hiatt by a single stroke.
• Registration for the Labor Day Four-Ball Tournament ends Aug. 17.
Qualifying rounds are Aug. 22-24.
Host Randolph County reached the championship game of the American Legion Southeast Regional with a 9-7 win against Florence, S.C.
Jacksonville, Fla., rallied for three runs in the top of the ninth and then held on in the bottom half to beat Randolph 8-7 in the championship game at McCrary Park.
Jacksonville represents the Southeast in the World Series. Pool play in Shelby starts on Thursday.
Andre Wheeler pitched five shutout innings and Toby Thomas hit a three-run homer as Kannapolis routed Lexington 10-0 on Monday.
• Nick Lomascolo (Catawba) had a sharp relief outing on Monday for State College and lowered his ERA to 2.43.

Southeast Middle School football will have its first practice for 7th and 8th graders on Friday Aug. 15, from 6-8 p.m. Players should bring a current physical, cleats, shorts and T-shirt and report to the locker room. For further information, contact head coach Stephen London at 704-224-5259.
