Authorities are asking the public for help in tracking down a group of suspects who beat and robbed a man Wednesday in Cannon Park.
Police said a 28-year-old man was sitting in the park smoking a cigarette around 10:50 p.m. when he said he was approached by four to five men. One of the suspects asked the victim for a cigarette, and the victim refused.
“At that time, (the victim) got hit in the back of the head by one of them,” police Capt. Shelia Lingle said. “When he fell over, they all started hitting and kicking him.”
Someone reached inside the victim’s jacket pocket and took his cellphone. “Then they took off running,” Lingle said. The victim was taken to the hospital, treated and released, Lingle said.
Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Salisbury Police Department at 704-638-5333 or Crime Stoppers at 1-866-639-5245.
