SALISBURY — The Rowan County Chamber of Commerce’s Power in Partnership breakfast will announce the Teacher of the Year for the Rowan-Salisbury School System.
The chamber hosts the Teacher of the Year program for the school system every year. However, this is the first time the event will be held in conjunction with Power in Partnership. The 35 teachers from each of the schools and six finalists will be honored and recognized at 7:30 a.m. May 15 at Trinity Oaks, 728 Klumac Road.
Superintendent Dr. Lynn Moody will announce the new 2014 Rowan-Salisbury Teacher of the Year.
“We want more business leaders to be able to see the wonderful teachers in our community,” Chamber President Elaine Spalding said.
Phil Kirk will present the Phillip J. Kirk, Jr. Honored Educator Scholarship to the winning teacher that covers expenses for one week at the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching. The 2013-14 Leadership Rowan Class will also have their last class session that day.
The May 15 PIP is the last program in this series. The program will start again in September and run through May 2015.
Anyone interested in obtaining a Power Card should contact the chamber. The Power Card is the Rowan Chamber’s frequent attender program. Holders receive a discounted price for the series and do not have to make a reservation each month.
For people without a Power Card, reservations are welcome. Space will be limited for this event, which is expected to sell out.
The reservation deadline is 5 p.m. May 13. The cost is $12 for members and $20 for non-members. The price includes the cost of breakfast and the program.
