The Rowan County Fair Association and The SEED Foundation of North Carolina announced today that it will partner to produce a new marketplace at the fairgrounds on Wednesdays beginning March 19. Indoor and outdoor display space is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Outdoor spots are $10 and indoor ones are $20.
The fairgrounds are off Interstate 85 (Exit 74) at 1560 Julian Road. Open every Wednesday, the flea market begins on March 19 from 8 a.m.-until. The Buy Fresh Buy Local Farmers will begin on April 23.
“In the current economy, flea markets have become much more popular for people and antique collectors looking to save money and find bargains,” said Randall Barger, event manager of the fairgrounds. “On a nice day you can find some flea markets that are packed full of people.”
The SEED Foundation of North Carolina is an effort to bring together community resources and programs needed to develop a local and regional-based food system that supports the desire of rural communities to rebuild their economic and ecological health. Through community involvement, integrated and responsible agribusiness and a commitment to economic, ecologic and nutritional health, The SEED Foundation supports the development of a vibrant local and regional food system.
“There is no limit for the need of fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables,” said Jon Barber of The SEED Foundation. “The Buy Fresh Buy Local Farmers Market provides an opportunity for local producers to sell fresh produce and other commodities directly to consumers while providing consumers opportunities to buy locally grown produce and other locally produced commodities.”
