Expect lane closings on I-85 in Concord

Weather permitting, the N.C. Department of Transportation tonight will be closing the right lanes on I-85 in both directions over the next several nights just north of Poplar Tent Road (Exit 52) in Concord.
The closures are needed so crews can break down the temporary work bridge used during the $125.2 million I-85 widening project to haul heavy equipment and materials into the median. This bridge proved to be essential in minimizing impact to traffic on I-85, as construction vehicles were able to maneuver without interrupting traffic flow.
The closures will begin tonight at 9 p.m., with the lanes re-opened by 6 a.m. Thursday. Similar nighttime closures could be in place through Friday morning, Jan. 17.
In addition, crews will temporarily close the entrance ramp from George Liles Parkway to I-85 South from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday to complete concrete paving operations.
