CONCORD — Early Thursday morning, firefighters at Concord Fire Station 8 were awakened by the sounds of fire alarms, except this time the fire was coming from inside the station.

According to a press release from the city, alarms sounded at 4:18 a.m. Crews located the source of the fire — a reserve ladder truck caught on fire inside the bay.

Per the release, the bay area was filled with heavy smoke, but firefighters were able to safely get to their firefighting gear, remove the engine truck from the station, pull the hose lines and begin fire suppression.

Additional fire units were dispatched to the scene and the fire was brought under control in a matter of minutes at 4:24 a.m. The release stated that the fire is believed to have started inside the cab area of the reserve ladder truck. There were no injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

While there is smoke damage to the building and cleanup work is underway, Fire Station 8 remains operational and is in service.

In total, four engines, one ladder, one rescue, two battalion chiefs, one safety officer and 24 firefighters responded.
