LANDIS — The Rowan County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a Monday afternoon fire at a vacant South Highland Avenue home. The fire began around 1:30 p.m. and was under control three hours later.
The home, located in the 1200 block of South Highland Avenue at the corner of Airport Road, was not occupied, Landis Fire Chief Reed Linn said.
The property owner, Gary Moss, said he called 911, but declined to comment further to a Post reporter.
Landis firefighters were first on the scene and reported seeing smoke before they left the fire station. When firefighters arrived, the brick home was fully engulfed.
An hour into the blaze, firefighters from multiple agencies continued to put out hot spots. The following agencies responded; China Grove Fire, Kannapolis Fire, Bostian Heights Fire, Atwell Fire and Enochville Fire departments. Landis Public Power was called to turn off power to the home.
The fire was contained to the one structure, Linn said.
He said it was too early to determine an official cause of the fire. The home had extensive fire and water damage inside, and is likely a total loss, Linn said.
