Through a recent grant to the N.C. Agricultural Foundation Inc. and N.C. State University, the N.C. Tobacco Trust Fund Commission is providing funds to expand and continue the work of the AgriSafe and Certified Safe Farm programs in North Carolina in 18 counties including Rowan.
N.C. Cooperative Extension agents will be specially trained in safety to conduct on-farm safety reviews during the three-year project. Farmers will receive tailored recommendations for safety improvements on their farms and may apply for cost-share assistance. AgriSafe, led by the N.C. Agromedicine Institute, provides health screenings and assists with personal protective equipment and health care referrals. AgriSafe and Certified Safe Farm are programs designed to save lives, improve health and lower costs on North Carolina farms. Their goal is to protect agriculture’s most important asset, its people.
