Carson’s boys soccer team trailed 2-0 at halftime but rallied to beat Northwest 5-2 for another SPC win.
It was a big win for the Cougars in wide-open SPC race. Every team in the league has at least one conference loss.
Sam Cooley started the scoring for Carson.
Brandon Flores scored two goals in a span of three minutes to put the Cougars ahead. Logan Correll and Colton Correll had assists.
Garrett Owens and Pedro Perez had the last two goals.
Owens, Aaron Lippard and Fidel Flores led the defense for the Cougars. Keeper Grayson Owens shut out the Trojans in the second half.
Carson is at home against Cox Mill on Oct. 1.
•Carson’s jayvees lost 5-2 to Northwest Cabarrus. Braxton Rogers and Carter Love scored for the Cougars.
• Salisbury played everyone and rolled 9-1 against East Rowan on Tuesday.
Ahmedin Salcinovic scored his first career varsity goal to start the scoring nine minutes into the match.
Luis Diaz closed the scoring with his first two career varsity goals. Other goal- scorers included Joshua Lynch (second career goal), Reilly Gokey (second career goal, first this season), Philip Simons, Emmy Turcios and Lucas Capito.
The final Hornet goal was an own goal. East’s goal was also an own goal.
Getting assists for the Hornets (12-1) were Nick Greene, Salcinovic, Landon Goodman, Bobby Cardelle, Michael Brown, Zack Sukkasem and Capito.
Max Fisher played a shutout half in goal and Lynch held East off the board in the second half.
Salisbury returns to CCC action tonight against Thomasville. Game time is 6 p.m. at Ludwig Stadium.
• Christ the King won 6-1 against Woodlawn. Patrick Blattney scored two goals.
Lizzie Weaver, Rebecca Agner, Laura Agner, Lauren Thomas, Drew Pethel and Emmam Ritchie won singles matches as East Rowan won 9-0 against West Rowan in SPC tennis on Tuesday. Weaver-Luara Agner, Rebecca Agner-Thomas and Pethel-Ritchie won doubles matches.
• East lost 7-2 to Gray Stone on Tuesday.
Salisbury’s girls shot 115 and won a CCC match. East Davidson (157) edged West Davidson (158) for second.
Isabella Rusher shot 35 for the Hornets. Grace Yatawara and Madeline Hoskins shot 40s. Caroline Parrott shot 51. Shelby Holden shot 53.
East Davidson’s Sam Smith shot 44.
Carson stayed unbeaten with a sweep of East Rowan in SPC play on Tuesday.
• South Rowan was swept by Concord.
• Salisbury’s jayvees won 2-1 against North Rowan. Breya Philpot and Heavenly Robinson had eight kills each. Kate Murph had three aces and z19 assists. Makayla Dillon had 18 assists, and Rebecca Malloy had nine digs.
UNC Greensboro’s Roy Dixon (Salisbury) tied for 13th in the VCU Shootout.
Dixon shot 70-74-72 — 216, even-par. It was the lowest 54-hole total of his college career.
• Catawba men’s golf team was sixth , while the women placed eighth in the Tusculum Fall Classic which concluded on Tuesday afternoon.
Madison Kennedy (Salisbury) led the Catawba women with a score of 151 for a third- place finish. Kennedy turned in a 72 on Tuesday to equal her career low round. Leslie Long also finished in the top 20 with a 158. Carmen Grubb (Davie) shot 83-90 — 173
The Catawba men were led by Matt Hardman and Tyler Rutherford. They tied for 13th at 143.

The Corbin Hills women played in their annual Mary Cobb McComb Member-MemberTournament on Tuesday.
The winning team was Becky Isenhour and Susan Morris. Second low net went to the team of Ruth Bowles and Norma Burgess, followed by the teams of Tammie Drew and Monica Green and Treva Honeycutt and Louise Collins. First low gross went to the team of Phyllis Durland and Kristi Laton. Second low gross was won by the team of Mary Seaford and Faye Cline.
• Seventy-four members played the fourth round of the annual GARS tournament at Crescent.
Low ‘A’ Flight player was Tom Talbert with a net of 64.82. Low ‘B’ Flight player with a net of 68.33 was David Lee. Low ‘C’ Flight player with a net of 62,36 was Gary Schenk. Low ‘D’ Flight player with a net of 59.12 was John Goodman.
Knox’s seventh-graders won 28-0 against West Rowan Middle.
Ishmael Khadjuway scored three touchdowns and had a 2-point conversion for the Trojans. Raheim Walker had a touchdown and a 2-point conversion behind Daveon Robinson’s excellent blocking from the fullback position. Both had over 100 yards rushing.
The offensive line of Adam Layman, Blake Clark, Rourke Burton, Tywaun Smith, Tyjae Polk and Devin Basenback blocked well.
The Knox defense created five turnovers. Defensive leaders were Angelo Parker (several tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries), David Holden (fumble recovery) and Tyrone Johnson (five tackles, interception).
• Erwin’s seventh-graders beat China Grove 38-0.
Christian Bennett and Sam Wall scored two TDs each for the Eagles. Dylan Bryant scored one TD. Josh Smith passed to Zack Simpson for a 2-point conversion.
Wall intercepted a pass. Steven Milner and Joseph Plemmons recovered fumbles. Hunter Eagle blocked a punt.
• North Rowan Middle’s seventh-graders won 28-12 against Southeast.
Cam Gill scored three touchdowns for the Mavericks on runs of 2 and 40 and a 50-yard pass from Logan Stoner. Gill also scored a 2-point conversion.
Spencer Everhart scored on a 2-point conversion pass from Stoner.
Stanton Bailey scored a defensive touchdown for the Mavericks on the last play before the half on a 90-yard fumble return.
North plays again Tuesday at China Grove.
Spencer Lanning, who threw a touchdown pass for the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, has local ties.
Lanning went into the game as the holder for a field-goal attempt, but instead he took the snap and threw a TD pass to wide-open tight end Jordan Cameron.
Lanning was a standout collegiate punter and kicker for the South Carolina Gamecocks. He is actually named after the town in northern Rowan County, and his father, Tad, grew up on the mill hill of the Yadkin River.
Spencer’s grandfather was a football standout for the Spencer High Railroaders in the 1950s. Spencer’s father moved the family to South Carolina in 1970.

Salisbury’s boys golf and boys tennis teams were recognized by the NCHSAA for having the highest team GPAs in the state last spring.

Erwin’s girls defeated Knox 8-1 for their seventh victory. Winners in singles were Haley Loflin, Mia Graham, Lauren Weisensel, Destini Hamilton and Kristen Brady. Winners in doubles were Loflin,Angel Scialdone, Graham,Weisensel, Hamilton and Brady.
Bethanie Stauffer won a singles match for Knox.
Knox will host Mooresville on Thursday.

Catawba Valley CC swept Toccoa Falls.
Aimee Cloninger (Carson) had 10 kills, while Tiffany Brooks (South Rowan) had four.
Cloninger had eight digs and two aces. Brooks had 1.5 blocks.

Lexington High will induct its first Hall of Fame class on Thursday, Sept. 26, at 7 p.m. at the Lexington Municipal Club.
Athletes will be inducted from Lexington and Lexington Dunbar high schools.
Inductees will be Presnell Mull, Charlie England, Bob Byerly, James Snyder, former Catawba hero Harold Bowen, William Dusenberry, Jimmy Bryson, James Henderson, Libby Matthews Johnson and Camey Timberlake Dillon. Mull, England and Henderson are deceased.
