Salisbury baseball standout Chance Bowden has committed to Catawba’s baseball program.
A first baseman who will become a four-year varsity player this spring at SHS, Bowden batted .433 with 18 RBIs for the Hornets as an all-county junior.
Bowden hit .348 as a sophomore.
Bowden was one of the stars for the Rowan County American Legion team over the summer. He had team highs of four homers, 15 doubles, 41 runs, 48 hits, 42 RBIs and a .421 batting average.
In the historic first ever CCC girls golf match at Sapona on Thursday, Salisbury shot 142 to win over East Davidson (158), West Davidson (159) and Lexington (172).
Grace Yatawara shot 37 for medalist honors. Shelby Holden shot 51, and Carolina Parrott shot 54.

Carson won 9-0 against South Rowan in SPC tennis on Wednesday.
Laura Isenhour, Sara Lentz, Addie Gantt, Erika Meadows, Kate Cole and Mackenzie Menius won singles matches for the Cougars.
Isenhour-Lentz, Meadows-Cole and Gantt-Menius swept doubles.
• East Rowan (8-0) stayed undefeated with an 8-1 win against Northwest Cabarrus, last year’s SPC champ.
Lizzie Weaver, Laura Agner, Rebecca Agner, Lauren Thomas, Drew Pethel and Taylor Trexler won singles matches.
Doubles winners for the Mustangs were Weaver-Laura Agner and Pethel-Trexler.
East plays against West Rowan on Monday.
Salisbury’s volleyball team lost 3-1 to West Davidson on Thursday in a CCC match.
Juliana Anderson led the Hornets with 11 kills and nine blocks. Nyasia Harris had four kills and eight blocks. Mary Seifert and Olivia Smith were standouts.
• Salisbury’s jayvees lost 2-0 to West Davidson.
Dakotah Insley had five kils. Rebecca Malloy had nine digs. Makayla Dillon and Kate Murph had seven assists each.
• North Rowan’s volleyball team beat Thomasville 25-12, 25-21 and 25-16 on Thursday.
•Carson stayed undefeated with a 25-10, 25-9 and 25-7 SPC win against Central Cabarrus on Thursday.
WSTP-1490 will broadcast the West Rowan-Northwest Cabarrus game tonight.
Former Catawba coach Chip Hester will join Howard Platt in the booth.
The game also is the WSOC and the NBC/96.1 game of the week.
Carson rolled 9-0 against East Rowan in SPC action on Thursday.
Brandon Flores scored three more goals for the surging Cougars.
Raunel Vasquez scored twice. Silvestre Lopez, Khalid Myers, Colton Correll and Ricky Maldonado had a goal each.
Logan Correll, Colton Correll and Vasquez had assists.
Bays Bost and Salvador Sanchez led the Mustangs.
Carson is at Northwest Cabarrus on Tuesday.
• Cox Mill and Hickory Ridge battled to a 2-2 tie in SPC soccer on Thursday.
Carson’s jayvee football team won 20-6 against East Rowan on Thursday.
The Cougars (3-1) trailed 6-0, but took a 7-6 lead on Andy Lear’s 38-yard scoring pass to Justin Copeland and Cole Howard’s PAT.
Austin Lear had two rushing TDs for the Cougars, and Howard added another PAT.
Conner Wilson and Scott Vandergriff recovered fumbles for the Cougars.
Jacob McCurry and Austin Russ were outstanding on defense.
• West Rowan won 34-14 against Northwest Cabarrus on Thursday. Javon Quarles had two rushing TDs and two 2-point conversions.
Lee Poteat threw two TD passes, and Juwan Houston had two TD catches. Kortez Weeks had a receiving TD, and threw a TD pass.
Shane Barber, Caleb Epps, Javon Lofton and Josh Wright were offensive leaders. Johnathon Johnson, Craig Mattison, Austin Love, J.T. Sanders and Amara Morris were defensive leaders.
•Heath Barringer played well at quarterback and Luke Frizzell made five solo tackles in South Rowan’s 18-6 loss to Concord.
• North Rowan (2-1-1) won 18-0 against Providence Grove. Standouts were offensive linemen Taylor Davis, Micah Howell, Brandon Collins, Zeth Robinson and Robbie Monroe.
Stevie Thurston, Terry Cathcart, Javon Goodine and Isiah Corpening led the defense for the Cavaliers.
• Salisbury lost to South Iredell 20-6. K.P. Patterson returned a fumble 65 yards for the Salisbury TD.
Two Salisbury women had exceptional times in the Philadelphia Half Marathon on Sunday.
Kelly Lowman ran a time of 1 hour, 34 minutes, and Dr, Kathy Russo was timed in 1 hour, 37 minutes.
Both times are among the fastest ever in a half marathon by a Rowan County woman.
The event had 22,000 participants.
Bryant Young threw touchdown passes to Caleb Mauldin and Devin Turner in a 46-0 win against Corriher-Lipe.
The Bulldogs (2-0) got a 22-yard fumble return for a touchdown from Zarrek Barger. Malcolm Ingram had a 12-yard scoring run. Turner scored on a 25-yard run. Anthony Renegar had a 26-yard rushing TD.
Offensive line leaders were Phillip McDaniel, Eli Eaton, Ethan Adkins and Caleb Link.
West hosts Knox on Wednesday.
Sacred Heart won 4-1 against Hickory Christian.
Michael Childress scored three goals, while Will Taylor had one.
Josh Faulkner was outstanding in goal. Jack Fisher, Spencer Blackwell and Bill Fisher starred defensively.

Catawba’s women’s team won 8-1 against J. C. Smith, while the Catawba men swept the Golden Bulls 9-0.
Knox defeated West Rowan Middle 7-2 on Thursday.
Singles winners for Knox were Rachel Seifert, Skye Mowery, Saleema Sabadaka, Maleah Corpening and Lindsay Jones. Doubles winners for Knox were Roberta Moulton-Rainey Durham and Jones-Laura Bullock.
