On Wednesday, Joe Ferebee, Pfeiffer University’s baseball coach from 1958-87 and known affectionately as the “winningest coach in North Carolina baseball,” sat down to share his baseball knowledge in a one-on-one videotaped interview with Bob Rathbun, Atlanta Hawks broadcaster since 1996. The interview took place at the Joe Ferebee Baseball Complex on Pfeiffer’s campus.
Ferebee, 94, amassed 677 career wins at Pfeiffer and an additional 694 victories with the Spence, Salisbury, Albemarle and Rowan Legion teams. Pfeiffer retired Ferebee’s jersey and number 23 last spring.
Rathburn is a longtime friend of Ferebee through their association with Rowan County American Legion baseball. Rathbun began his career in 1973 as sports director for WSTP Radio in Salisbury.
North Rowan’s home game with Davie on Friday is an endowment game, so only NCHSAA passes will be honored.
• Greensboro Page defensive lineman Lorenzo Featherston, Charlotte Christian tight end Jeb Blazevich and Pine Forest defensive lineman Lamont Gaillard were named to play in the Under Armour All-America Game. The game will be played on Jan. 2 in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Salisbury’s boys won 4-1 in non-conference action on Wednesday, avenging a loss to Trinity in last year’s state playoffs.
Daniel Newcomer put Trinity ahead 1-0, but Zack Sukkasem assisted on an Emmy Turcios goal for 1-1.
Sukkasem then assisted on a goal by Bobby Cardelle that gave the Hornets a 2-1 halftime lead.
Cardelle scored two more goals in the second half. Lucas Capito had an assist.
John Canipe, Christian Uribe, Philip Simons and Reilly Gokey played stout defense. It was Canipe’s birthday. Salisbury (6-1) takes on Ledford tonight.
• Trinity’s jayvees beat Salisbury 2-0.
• North Rowan fell 7-0 to Davie on Wednesday.
• South Rowan (4-5) rolled to a 6-0 win against Mount Pleasant. Tony Ramirez, Angel Dominguez, Luke Jester, Dalton Carter, Andrew Fulton and Jonathon Gramillo had goals.
Walker Joyce had three assists. Luis Delgado and Dominguez had one assist Defensive standouts included Carter, Alex Hopkins, Jose Sanchez and Hunter Altman.
Carson won 25-20, 25-19 and 25-12 against 4A Northwest Guilford on Wednesday.
Northwest Guilford came in 10-0. Carson plays Hickory Ridge at home today for first place in the SPC.
West Rowan won 7-2 against South Rowan in SPC tennis Tori Adams, Meredith Stanley, Lauren Compton and Ivey Rabon won in singles for the Falcons. Adams-Makenzie Koontz, Stanley-Jessica Ho and Compton-Rabon swept doubles.
Winners for South were Cierra Hunter and Mariah Mason.
• Salisbury’s tennis team beat West Davidson for its 123rd consecutive league victory. Alexandra Drye, Kayla Honeycutt, Anna Flynn, Kathryn Rusher, Grace Steinman and Kathleen Mowery were singles winners.
Drye-Mowery, Honeycutt-Flynn and Rusher-Steinman were the winning doubles teams.
Fred McHan of Advance made a hole-in-one on No. 9 at Foxwood on Wednesday.
Knox’s girls tennis team won 7-2 against Southeast on Tuesday. Singles winners for Knox were Rachel Seifert, Skye Mowery, Maleah Corpening, Saleema Sabadaka and Lindsay Jones.
Siefert-Mowery and Corpening-Laura Bullock were doubles winners. Knox hosts North Rowan on Thursday.
• Corriher-Lipe won 6-3 against West Rowan Middle in girls tennis.
Payton Holt and Hydeya Robbins won singles matches for the Bulldogs, and Holt-Robbins won in doubles.
Caroline Johnson pitched a no-hitter for Erwin in a 21-0 win against North Rowan Middle. Ashlyn Fritz had two hits. Fritz and Reagan Perry hit home runs.
• West Rowan Middle won against Corriher-Lipe. Parker Greene had two doubles, and Hannah Roberts struck out eight for the Bulldogs (2-1). Morgan Corriher, Faith Moore and Hannah Pratt also hit well for West.
Sacred Heart’s varsity won 3-2 against Salisbury Academy. Michael Childress, Eric Turnbull and Will Taylor scored goals for the Dolphins. Sacred Heart’s javees won 4-1 against Salisbury Academy. Ben Childress, Colin Donaldson, Sutton Webb and Riley Dillon scored goals for the Dolphins.
China Grove’s seventh-graders won 14-6 aainst Corriher-Lipe.
Quay Ford scored on a 5-yard run, and Dylan Johnson scored on a 20-yard pass from Jeff Bramblett.
Bramblett also kicked a PAT. Defensive standouts for the Red Devils were Johnson, Ford, Andrew Jones, Michael Sloop, Caleb Weaver and Davis Tadlock.
The Salisbury 49ers football team will play their first home game on Saturday, Sept. 14, against the King Dolphins at Salisbury High at 9 a.m.
The local Punt, Pass & Kick competition will be held on Sunday, Sept. 15, at 2 p.m. at Catawba’s Shuford Stadium. No cleats. No charge.
• Other upcoming programs sponsored by Salisbury Parks and Rec include adult coed kickball. The cost is $150 per team. Register by Sept. 16.
•Register by Sept. 14 for youth soccer (ages 4-8). The cost is $20 per player.

Catawba Valley Community College won in four games against Surry Community College on Tuesday.
Aimee Cloninger (Carson) ahd 17 kills and 13 digs. Tiffany Brooks (South Rowan) had eight kills and three blocks.
Catawba’s women fell 1-0 to Lees-McRae Wednesday.
