Rowan teams in state event

In the state tournament for 11-12 softball, Rowan Little League won 13-7 against Jackson County on Wednesday.
Rowan reached tonight’s championship game against Wilkes County in Garner.
Rowan would have to beat Wilkes twice in order to win the state title. Gametime is at 7 p.m.
The state champion goes to the regional in Warner Robins, Ga.
• The Rowan 9-10 softball team is also in a championship game tonight.
Rowan won 13-0 against Fayetteville Eastover in a semifinal.
Rowan will play East Surry at 7 p.m. in Pilot Mountain.
East Surry beat Rowan in the district tournament, but Rowan has beaten East Surry in the state tournament.
East Surry would have to beat Rowan twice today. The winner goes to the regional in Luray, Va.

East Rowan’s 9U all-stars qualified for the Southeast Regional in Franklin, Tenn., that starts on July 25.
East secured a spot with a 10-7 win against Indian Trail.

Kannapolis won 3-0 on Wednesday at Delmarva.
Jefferson Olacio pitched seven shutout innings.
Jacob May, Tim Anderson, Jason Coats, Mike Marjama and Jake Brown had two hits each for Kannapolis.
• Corey Seager (NW Cabarrus) drove in two runs on Wednesday. He’s batting .306 with eight homers and 43 RBIs.

New York Mets reliever Bobby Parnell (East Rowan) made an all-star break appearance at Newman Park on Wednesday.
Parnell was a member of Rowan County’s 2002 state-championship team.

Randolph County (29-5) will play at Kernersville (29-6) when the best-of-three Area III championship series starts on Saturday.
Both teams will move on to the state tournament in Wilson.

Salisbury’s Eric Edwards shot 79 on the second day of the Dogwood State Junior Championship being held at River Landing Country Club in Wallace.
Edwards is at 149 after two rounds. He’s tied for 27th.
East Rowan’s Logan Shuping shot 83-84 — 167 and did not advance to third-round play.
• The Country Club of Salisbury Senior Interclub team won 21-15 against Sapona Ridge On Wednesday.
The winning team included Burl Brady, Glenn Dixon, Ken Reid, Bob Bailey, John Kilgo, Bob Mangum, David Roueche, Richard Dwiggins Garay Applewhite, Craig Rae, Andre Resner and Tim Young.
• In the eGolf Tour’s HGM Hotels Classic at Rock Barn in Conover, Salisbury’s Frank Adams III shot an opening-round 71. Will Collins (Salisbury) shot 73.
Play was suspended by darkness. Adam Long’s 65 paced the golfers who finished.

China Grove youth baseball and softball registrations will be taken at Dale’s Sporting Goods in China Grove until August 15.
Fees are $40 until August 15. Leagues offered are 5/6 Coach Pitch; 7/8 Coach Pitch; 9/10 baseball, and 11/12 baseball. Softball leagues are 5/6/7; 8/9/10 and 11/12/13.
