Rowan County’s Junior Legion team advanced to the second round of the playoffs.
Rowan beat Mocksville 4-3 on Saturday.
Joseph Peeler got the win for Rowan.
Peeler, Scott Sapp and Jackson Justus led the offense, Justus drove in three runs.
• West Rowan split Saturday’s doubleheader with Concord.
Concord won 6-2 against West Rowan in 10 innings in the first game.
Bryan Ketchie pitched into the eighth for West and allowed only three hits. Brandon Walton led West at the plate.
West won 7-3 in the second game. Micah Marsh was the winning pitcher. Standouts at the plate were Noah Teeter and Tyler Poteat. Caleb Link had an inside-the-park homer.
Game 3 will be played today at 2 p.m. at West Rowan.

Just when you’re sure you’ve seen it all in Legion baseball, along comes the Davidson-Winston-Salem series.
The first-round series was slated for best-of-five, and Davidson took a 2-0 lead with an amazing ninth inning comeback that provided an 11-10 win on Saturday afternoon.
The teams also were scheduled to play Saturday night, but after a rain delay, the nightcap got started late.
With Davidson leading 8-7, Davidson was declared the series winner after the game pushed past midnight.
The reasoning: Legion teams are allowed to play doubleheaders in a day, but not tripleheaders, and a game past midnight meant, in the commissioner’s ruling, that it had become a Sunday game.
Winston-Salem already was in the position of having to win a doubleheader on Sunday to pull out the series because Round 2 must start Monday.
As the series winner, Davidson will play at Randolph on Monday. A Winston-Salem protest is possible.
• The Mooresville Moors beat the Mooresville Legends 11-5 and 15-8 on Saturday in what amounted to a one-day series.
The Moors advanced, and they’ll start a series against Stanly at home on Monday – weather permitting.
In the Northern Division, Kernersville swept Western Forsyth and will play either High Point or Burlington in the second round.
High Point and Burlington have scheduled a doubleheader (if necessary) for today.
High Point leads the series 2-1.
Rowan starts a series with Wilkes on Monday at Newman Park.
Wilkes beat Mocksville twice on Friday, and the teams were unable to play Saturday. Wilkes was declared a 2-0 series winner.

Hickory hit three homers and beat the Kannapolis Intimidators 6-3 in a rain-shortened contest on Saturday.
Hickory’s Joey Gallo hit his 26th, a total which leads the minor leagues.
Jason Coats and Keon Barnum homered for the Intimidators.
The teams play again today in Hickory at 5 p.m.

John J. Tuttle (A.L. Brown, Catawba) was named the starting pitcher for the West team in the Coastal Plain League All-Star Game.
The game will be played in Hampton, Va., on Monday.
Tuttle, who hurls for the Asheboro Copperheads, is 5-0 this summer with an 0.51 ERA. Opposing hitters are batting .181 against him.

Sixty-four GARS members played a Texas Scramble at Corbin Hills.
The team of Don Bishop, O.J. Chandler, Gordon Correll and Dave Wilson shot minus-11 for first place.
Tying for second at minus-6 were the teams of Reid Bradshaw, Dale Cobb, John Hooper and Johnny Legrand and the team of Jim Adams, Jim Diffenderfer, Windsor Eagle and Winsten Mahaffey.
Two teams shot minus-5.

Correll made the longest putt on No. 9 and was closest to the pin on No. 2.

China Grove’s 9U all-stars are hosting the area tournament.
China Grove won 3-2 against Bunker Hill in eight innings.
China Grove and East Rowan have advanced to Sunday’s winner’s bracket finals. Both have qualified for the state tournament.
East won 17-3 against St. Stephens and 10-7 against Eastern Randolph.
• The East Rowan 8U team won 8-0 against Fletcher.
The East 8U team plays today against Indian Trail.
• The East 12U team lost to Eastern Randolph 5-1 but has beaten Alexander County 5-2 and topped Yadkin County 7-6.
East’s 12-year-old stars play today at 4 p.m.
