RALEIGH (AP) — Motorists who use Interstate 40 in the Winston-Salem area will have to alter their travel plans for the next week.
The N.C. Department of Transportation is beginning preservation work on the bridges that carry I-40 over the Yadkin River just west of Clemmons.
Work on the westbound bridge will close all westbound lanes at Exit 182 for three consecutive weekends from 8 p.m. each Friday until 6 a.m. on Monday.
In addition to weekend closures, motorists can expect weeknight lane closures on the two-mile stretch of I-40 West from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. each weeknight through June 17.
When the westbound bridge is done, crews will start on the eastbound bridge, which will shut down I-40 East over three weekends, as well as some weeknight lane closures.
