A Salisbury man who took police on a short car, foot chase was charged with resisting arrest, having an open container of alcohol and not having a driver’s license.

The Salisbury Police say Rickey Lee Hoskins, Jr., 33, of the 500 block of E. Cemetery St., was traveling on 11th Street, near North Main Street late Friday night. The officer was checking the vehicle’s license plate number, which came back that the driver had no license. When the driver, later identified as Hoskins, spotted the officer, the driver sped up, a report said.

The driver slammed on the brakes, sending a large cloud of dust into the air, a report said.

Hoskins jumped out of the vehicle and ran. The officer caught up to Hoskins near the 200 block of West 12th and North Jackson streets.

Hoskins was shocked with a Taser when he did not comply with the officer’s commands to stop. He did comply after he was shocked, the officer said in the report.

Hoskins was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. Officials said he had a marijuana grinder on him. He was given a $2,500 secured bond and has since been released from the Rowan County jail.

Hoskins was convicted of driving while impaired, larceny, driving while license revoked, resisting arrest, drug possession, speeding to elude arrest, possessing an open container of alcohol, common law robbery, breaking and entering and burglary.
