North Rowan’s girls basketball team fell to West Montgomery 69-55 in a YVC semifinal Thursday in Biscoe.
Danasia Dumas led the Warriors to their third win against North this year with 24 points. The Cavaliers led 20-17 after a quarter but struggled mightly in the second, managing just three points. The Cavs only hit 11 of 31 foul shots.
“The second quarter all we did was turn the ball over and just miss shots,” North coach Brian Lytton said. “We jumped on them in the first quarter but couldn’t get our momentum back.”
Demeria Robinson scored 24 points to lead North, which made the 1A state playoffs as the league’s No. 3 seed.

• Taylor Hatfield hit a free throw with 26 seconds left to cap a Davie comeback in a 66-65 win against No. 2 seed Reagan on Thursday in a CPC tournament semifinal.
The third-seeded War Eagles finished with four in double figures after being down 32-19 in the second quarter. Reagan hit eight 3-pointers in the first half to hold a 38-35 lead at the break.
“We weren’t handling their pressure well early,” Davie coach Mike Absher said. “We battled and fought back.”
Caleb Martin led all scorers with 18 points. Davie will face Mount Tabor tonight at home in the tournament championship game.
Davie can move up to the No. 2 seed for the playoffs if it wins.

• Salisbury’s boys will be in the 2A state playoffs.
Salisbury will play East Davidson today at 5 p.m. in Lexington to decide the CCC’s No. 3 and No. 4 seeds.
Fifth-seeded West Davidson beat Salisbury in the first round but was eliminated by top-seeded Central Davidson on Wednesday.
Salisbury tied East Davidson and Lexington for second in the regular season.
• Championship games in all five area conferences will be played tonight with girls games at 6 and boys games at about 7:30.
Host sites are East Montgomery (YVC), Lexington (CCC), North Iredell (NPC), Concord (SPC) and Davie (CPC).
• Playoff pairings should be available on Saturday. Teams will be seeded No. 1 through No. 16 in East, Mideast, Midwest and West regions based on conference standing and overall records. In a tweak from last season, conference tournament games also will count in figuring overall records.
The first three rounds of boys and girls playoff games are scheduled for Monday, Wednesday and Friday of next week.

Men’s basketball

Rio Grande will honor Kaleb Kimber (West Rowan) on Senior Day on Saturday. Kimber is averaging 5.8 points per game.
•Alex Weant (Salisbury) scored four points for Roanoke in a 76-68 win against Bridgewater in the first round of the ODAC tournament.

College softball

Campbell’s Ericka Nesbitt (East Rowan) had three hits and scored twice as the Camels won 7-5 at Elon in Elon’s first game in its new park.
Elon pitcher Chelsea White (East) missed the game with an injury, but she is expected to return to action soon.
•Zebresha Blakeney (A.L. Brown) will be the starting second baseman for North Carolina A&T this season. The Aggies open Saturday against Morgan State.

College baseball

Brevard’s Alex Litaker (East Rowan) got three outs on groundballs in the ninth and saved a 5-4 SAC win against Lenoir-Rhyne.
•Justin Seager (NW Cabarrus) had three hits and two RBIs in Charlotte’s 12-3 win against High Point on Wednesday.
•Preston Troutman (East) had three hits, including his second homer, in Appalachian State’s 13-6 win against Canisius. Noah Holmes (East) went 1-for-3 and drove in a run for the Mountaineers.

College tennis

Catawba’s teams were swept by Pfeiffer on Wednesday at Knapp Tennis Center.
Pfeiffer’s men took an 8-1 victory, while the Pfeiffer women prevailed 6-3.

Local golf

The Pfeiffer Golf Invitational will be held at The Club at Irish Creek on Monday and Tuesday.
Catawba will be playing in the 36-hole, stroke-play event that starts each day at 10 a.m.
The Club at Irish Creek also will be the host on March 11 for the annual competition between the public high schools in Rowan and Cabarrus counties.
• In the eGolf Tour’s Oldfield Open in Okatie, S.C., Salisbury’s Frank Adams III shot 75-70 — 145 for two rounds and is tied for 44th at 1-over.
The cutline fell at 2-over.
