Church to honor Kennedy with ‘Legacy’ award

EAST SPENCER — William R. “Pete” Kennedy, who is in his 20th year as a Salisbury city councilman, will be honored Sunday at his home church in East Spencer.
Kennedy will receive Southern City AME Zion Church’s “Legacy of a Leader” award as part of the church’s celebration of Black History Month. The celebration will take place at 3 p.m. Sunday at the church.
Past recipients of the church award are James Archie, John L. Rustin Sr. and Jean Kennedy.
Kennedy was first elected to Salisbury City Council in 1993. He is current chairman of Southern City AME Zion Church’s board of trustees.
