Carolinas HealthCare System is lifting restrictions it placed on young visitors due to a flu outbreak.
Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast in Concord is part of the system and had been subject to the restrictions, which kept children younger than 12 out of the hospitals. The restrictions will be lifted at 6 a.m. Wednesday, the Carolinas HealthCare said in a new release.
A significant drop in the number of patients being seen with flu-like symptoms prompted the change.
During the week of Jan. 21, the last full week measured, 467 patients with flu-like symptoms were seen in the emergency departments of Carolinas HealthCare System hospitals in the Charlotte area. This compares to a high of 1,556 patients during the week of Dec. 8.
