SALISBURY — One woman was taken to the hospital after two vehicles collided on Statesville Boulevard and briefly shut the four-lane road down Thursday morning.
Firefighters doused both flaming vehicles after the wreckage caught fire about 11 a.m.
“Both of them caught fire after impact,” Salisbury Police Officer Daniel Fleming said.
Authorities said Barbara Brown, of Rock Spring Road, was taken by ambulance to Rowan Regional Medical Center. Brown’s injuries were not life threatening, officers said.
Brown, 68, was driving a small Toyota that plowed into a Honda SUV as the Honda was crossing Statesville Boulevard from Robin Road into the drive of the Hefner VA Medical Center.
Salisbury Police said Honda driver Ray Talley, 83, of Archdale, pulled out in front of Brown. Talley was not injured.
The four-lane road was briefly closed as emergency crews extinguished the two fires and cleaned the roadway.
Both vehicles appeared totaled and had smoke and fire damage along the front-ends.
The front left of the Honda was also crumpled where the vehicles hit.
