Carson’s boys were outscored 24-12 in the fourth quarter and lost to Cox Mill 72-55 on Wednesday in China Grove.
The Cougars (1-4) trailed by just five points heading into the fourth period.
“They stretched it to 10 and we had to start fouling,” Carson coach Brian Perry said. “We needed to finish a few plays and just didn’t do it.”
Tre Williams scored 14 points for the Cougars, and Rameiq Howard added 10.

Carson hoops camp
Carson will hold a boys and girls basketball camp for ages 6-12 in the Carson gym on Saturday, Dec. 8.
Camp is from 5-9 p.m. to give parents a night off or a night out.
Boys and Girls Basketball Camp (ages 6-12 years)
The $15 cost includes camp, pizza and a drink.
Concessions will also be available.

College football
UNC Pembroke receiver Ben DeCelle (East Rowan) was named to the Capital One Academic All-American team for Division II.
DeCelle, a junior, has a 3.96 GPA as a political science major.
DeCelle made 41 catches for 451 yards this season. His 59 career catches rank seventh all-time at UNCP.
• Livingstone defensive end Dorian Edwards was named to the Capital One Academic All-American team for Division II.
Edwards scored on a fumble return against Fayetteville State. He has a 3.75 GPA and is Livingstone’s SGA president.

College soccer
Catawba’s Anna Toole and Juliana Conte were named second team on the National Soccer Coaches Association All-Southeast Region team.
Conte, a midfielder, scored six goals. Toole, a defender, scored three goals.

College men’s hoops
Pfeiffer walloped Barber-Scotia 88-68 on Wednesday.
Josh Humphrey led the Falcons (2-6) with 18 points and nine rebounds.
The Sabers are 1-11.
Pfeiffer won’t play again until Jan. 2.
• The Davidson County Communit College team is 11-1 and ranked 10th nationally.
The Storm is home on Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 4:30 p.m.

College women’s hoops
Pfeiffer’s Jodie Lemons scored a career-high 28 points to lead the Falcons to an 87-59 win against Barber-Scotia on Wednesday.
Kellie Rhoney had 12 points and nine assists.
Pfeiffer is 6-1, while the Sabers are 0-8.
Pfeiffer plays at Catawba on Saturday. Tipoff is 2 p.m.

College track
Livingstone’s indoor track team competed in the Appalachian Invitational. Livingstone had 15 top-10 finishes.
Justin Davis (West Rowan) returns as the coach of the Blue Bears.
Ahmad Garrison (weight throw), Miracle Wigfall (shot put) and Anna-Kay Edwards (800) broke school records.
Garrison’s throw was 16.61 meters. Wigfall threw 10.65 meters. Edwards ran 2:22.58.
Livingstone’s men’s 4×400 relay team of Justin Avery (West), Antonio Washington, Octavius Matthews and Otis Tisdale placed third in 3:25.21.

SAC history
Catawba AD Dennis Davidson is on the committee that chose the top 20 moments in SAC history to celebrate 20 years of SAC play.
The countdown starts with the announcement of moments No. 16-20 on Dec. 12.

More All-SPC
A.L. Brown’s Brian Landis was named SPC Coach of the Year for boys cross country.
A.L. Brown’s Max Chandler, Timmy Hall, Kellen Corson and A.J. Meadows made the All-SPC cross country team.
Robinson’s C.J. Buck earned SPC Runner of he Year honors.
• In boys soccer, A.L. Brown’s Marco Gonzalez and Jalen Jackson were named to the All-SPC soccer team.
Robinson’s Jason Andrejchak was named SPC Player of the Year. Central Cabarrus’ Roberto Morales was named SPC Goalkeeper of the Year.
Central’s Mike Dye was the SPC Coach of the Year.
•In volleyball, Hickory Ridge’s Patti Chason was named SPC Coach of the Year. Hickory Ridge’s Rebecca Cochran was named SPC Player of the Year.
• In girls tennis, A.L. Brown’s Victoria McCowan and Bonita Thompson made the All-SPC team.
A.L. Brown’s Becky Shopf was named SPC Coach of the Year.
Cox Mill’s Sarah Jiang was named SPC Player of the Year.
• In girls cross country, A.L. Brown’s Kelsie Simpson and Briana Landis were All-SPC performers.
Robinson’s Natallie Andrejchak was the SPC Runner of the Year. Robinson’s Leah Benfield was named SPC Coach of the Year.
• Concord’s Sarah Bertram was the SPC Golfer of the Year. A.L. Brown’s Joey Chapman was the SPC Coach of the Year.

All-NPC additions
Carson’s Nick Thornton and Spencer Isaac made All-NPC in cross country. They were omitted from the list the league sent in this week.

Prep cheerleading
The 10th annual NCHSAA cheerleading championships will be held Saturday at the Raleigh Convention Center.

Prep swimming
South Rowan’s swim teams won against Mount Pleasant on Tuesday at Corriher YMCA.
South’s girls cruised 178-107.
Taylor Kluttz (200 free), Faith Casswell (100 backstroke), Nicole Mauldin (50 free), Leslie Franks (100 free), Casey Pruitt (200 IM) and Sydney Kelly (100 breaststroke) were individual winners for the Raiders.
Mauldin, Frank, Pruitt and Kelly won the 200 medley relay. Mauldin, Kelly, Casswell and Kluttz won the 200 freestyle relay. Pruitt, Kendra Power, Madyson Campbell and Franks won the 400 free relay.
• South Rowan’s boys won 182-51.
South got two wins from Jeremiah Bradshaw (100 IM, 500 free), Dillon Parker (50 free, 100 free) and Luke Rary (100 butterfly, 100 backstroke).
Bryan Bettis’ comeback win in the 200 freestyle got South rolling.
Parker, Dylan Goodman, Bradshaw and Rary won the 200 freestyle relay. Bradley Bettis, Bryan Bettis, Dustin Jenkins and Rary won the 400 free relay.
The Raiders return to action on Friday against South Iredell.

8th-grade hoops
Mooresville’s girls beat Erwin 27-21 to tighten up the league.
Erwin, Mooresville and Knox have one loss each.
Sehrena Hull scored 13 points to lead the Imps, while Sara Vanhoy scored six.
Micah Furr had seven points and six steals for Erwin (6-1). Destiny Jackson scored six. Breya Philpot had 10 rebounds and seven steals. Courtney Wagner grabbed six rebounds.
• Mooresville’s boys stayed unbeaten with a 65-35 win over Erwin.
Jay Davis scored 13 points, and Jace Donaldson and Noah Allen scored 10 apiece.
Erwin (4-3) was paced by Lucas Morton with 14 points. Datavian Davis scored nine, and Sean Perry added five.

Sacred Heart hoops
The Sacred Heart jayvee boys lost to Hickory Christian 31-19 at the Dolphin Tank,
Jack Fisher led the Dolphins with seven points and nine rebounds. Eric Turnbull pulled down 10 rebounds. Patrick Taylor had five points and four steals.
Sacred Herat is at home against Concordia on Friday.

Youth soccer
The local FCCA U9 socccer team, the Green Dragons, played in the Lake Norman Fall Classic Soccer Tournament and won a division championship with a 3-0-1 record.
Maddox Goodnight scored seven goals. Colin Donaldson scored six goals, while Ben Childress had five.
Goalkeeper Will Webb led the defense. Griffin Smith controlled the midfield.

Parks and Rec
Salisbury Parks and Recreation is accepting registrations at Hall Gym for its youth basketball leagues.
Leagues are for boy and girls ages 5-6 and ages 7-15 through Jan. 12.
Cost of the league is $35.
