CHINA GROVE – Authorities have confirmed the identity of a man killed on Old Beatty Ford Road Sunday night.
Robert Whitaker Jr., 55, of East Rice Street in Kannapolis, died when his vehicle ran off the road and struck several trees about 8:30 p.m. Sunday.
The vehicle, which appeared to be a silver four-door sedan, was traveling northwest toward Landis when it veered left off the road.
Whitaker was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities had not immediately determined if speed or alcohol was a factor Sunday night.
Police said the 55-year-old was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.
