It was a a step back in time — and also across the Pond.
The Oak Park Retirement Community held an English-style tea and vintage fashion show Tuesday, in honor of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
“We’re going to bring back a lot of wonderful memories,” said show organizer Alice Thompson, an avid collector of vintage clothing that she loves to share with various groups.
Women attending the tea got in on the action as well, some wearing their own vintage items and others donning hats on loan from the Piedmont Players Theatre prop room.
Tea-goers noshed on luscious fare from chef Reggie Hoagland and the Oak Park kitchen staff, including cucumber sandwiches, chocolate-dipped strawberries, orange marmalade tarts and cranberry-orange scones.
The event was a hit.
“The residents had a wonderful time,” said activity coordinator Karen Leonard.
The show featured dresses, hats, gloves and shoes, some from as far back as the 1920s, and all in pristine condition.
Models for the evening included Ashton Rogers, Joyce Lane, Ally Yow, Marlene Sweatt, Penny Owens, Rylan and Reaghan Moore, Betsy Safrit and Barbara Franklin.
