SPENCER — Spencer Presbyterian Church Faith Community Health Ministry will present a program on “Dealing with Dementia” on Thursday, May 10 at 12:30 p.m. in the church fellowship hall. Teresa Hoover from the Alzheimer Association will bring information to help caregivers cope with the challenges of this disease.
A light lunch will be served to those who come at noon. The public is invited. The church is located on 1st Street off of Salisbury Avenue across from the entrance to the Transportation Museum.
New Zion Baptist
New Zion Baptist Church, 2785 Dunn’s Mountain Road, will hold its annual Men’s Day on Sunday, May 6 at 3 p.m.
Guest speaker will be the Rev. Morgan Glenn, pastor of White Rock AME Zion Church of Granite Quarry. All men from visiting churches will make up a combined choir.
Host pastor is the Rev. Paul Jones Sr.
Christ Episcopal
CLEVELAND — The Rt. Rev. Alfred C. Marbles Jr., Assisting Bishop of the Northwest Region of the Episcopal Diocese of NC, will be the celebrant at Christ Episcopal Church on Sunday, May 6 at the 10:30 a.m. Holy Eucharist Rite II service, assisted by the Rev. Candice Burgess. He will also deliver the sermon.
Others assisting in the service will be Deacon Jane Holmes, serving as chaplain to the bishop, Patsy Feimster, crucifer, Alee Haglan and Savannah Brown as torch bearers and Kelly Butterfield as lector. James H. Padgett will be the organist.
Bishop Marbles will also dedicate new Eucharistic vestments give to the church in honor of Alice Barber Bennett by her children Barbara Furmanski of High Point and Ray Bennett of Hanahan, S.C.
Christ Church celebrated its 191st anniversary on April 28, 2012 of being formally admitted into the union with the Episcopal Diocese of N.C. There is still some evidence of the formation of the congregation going back to the 1750s. The current church building was consecrated on July 29, 1827, making it one of the oldest churches in the county.
Located at 3430 Old US Highway 70 in Cleveland, the church was named to the National Register of Historic Places in December of 2011.
South China Grove
CHINA GROVE — South China Grove Baptist Church will celebrate its 84th year during homecoming service on Sunday, May 6, at 11 a.m. A special song service will be held during the celebration by Ricky and Debbie Pinyan, Suzy Lambert and Myra Jolly.
Following the song service, the homecoming message will be presented by the Rev. Steve Wilson, pastor of China Grove First Baptist. Steve is married to Lucy Wilson, who is part time secretary at South China Grove Baptist. Rev. Wilson received his BA from the U.S. Naval Academy (1972), served 5 years as a naval officer, attended Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest (graduating in 1980), was ordained to the Gospel ministry on December 4, 1977, and has served as pastor for 3 other Southern Baptist churches in North Carolina.
There will be a covered dish meal in the family life center immediately following the service. Former members are invited to join the celebration.

KANNAPOLIS — Mercy’s Well southern Gospel group will be in concert at Lakewood Baptist Church, 806 Kluttz St. on Sunday evening, May 6 at 6 p.m.
Revival services at Lakewood will be held Monday-Thursday, May 6-10 at 7 p.m. Nightly speakers, in order, are Dr. Stan Welch of West Asheville Baptist Church, Asheville; Dr. Lee Pigg of Hopewell Baptist Church, Monroe; the Rev. Gospel Lighthouse
CHINA GROVE — Dr. J. L. Cook leads the preaching at Gospel Lighthouse Church, 453 Old Concordia Church Road, for services May 6-11.

New Beginning
CONCORD — New Beginning Church of God will hold its eighth appreciation service for co-pastor Chavis and Lady Tosha Maxwell, beginning on Friday night, May 11 at 7 p.m. with guest speaker V. Tillman, pastor of Life Giving Church of God, Concord.

Crown In Glory
The Crown In Glory Lutheran Church youth group will hold a fish fry on Saturday, May 12 at 9 a.m. Fish sandwiches are $4.50 each. All money raised will go toward expenses for the June youth group camp retreat.

Hills Worship benefit
The Hills Worship benefit concert is on Saturday, May 12, from 5-7 p.m. on the North Hills Christian school grounds by the school’s praise and worship team, Hills Worship. It is a free outdoor concert with food for sale (hot dogs, hamburgers, etc.) and door prizes, raffles and a silent auction. Bring lawn chairs.

Classic Carolinians
ROCKWELL — The Classic Carolinians will perform a concert of traditional southern gospel music on Saturday, May 12 at 6 p.m. at Lyerly Evangelical Church, 1320 Crescent Road.
The group organized in the early 50s in the Davidson County area and the original quartet reunited in 1998 and have performed on a regular basis since then.
The quartet has sung in ten states from Texas to Washington, DC, and all along the southeastern U.S. They have performed with well-known groups, including the Blue Ridge Quartet, the Statesmen, Oak Ridge, Sunshine Boys and LeFevres.

CCM benefit
CONCORD – An event benefitting Cooperative Christian Ministry will take place Saturday, May 12, from 8 a.m.- p.m. at AutoBarn Classic Cars.
All makes and models of cars, trucks and motorcycles are welcome at the event held at 325 McGill Ave.
Pre-register for $5 or register the day of the show for $10. Plaques will be awarded for Best of Show, Best Engineered and Top 10 picks. Judging begins at 10 a.m. and awards will be given at 1:30 p.m. There will be a 50/50 drawing and giveaways with music provided by deejay Clyde Waller and food by Punchy’s Diner.

Community benefit
KANNAPOLIS — A local community is holding two fair/craft sales to benefit a family that lost everything in a house fire. There will be craft vendors, food, 50/50 raffle, silent auction and more.
Richard Witherspoon has had multiple back surgeries and recently his leg was amputated. On Friday, April 13, around daybreak, his family’s house caught fire. Fortunately, there were no injuries but most all of their belongings were lost.
The Red Cross has helped immensely but there are still things the family needs.
A crew is willing to donate time for electrical, plumbing and carpentry if money can be raised to purchase a mobile home.
The first event is Saturday, May 12 at Eastwood Baptist Church, 320 Cook St., and the second is on Saturday, May 26 at Unity United Methodist Church, 8505 Unity Church Road, both from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
