GREENSBORO (AP) — A jury in Guilford County will decide the fate of a man after he was found guilty of first-degree murder in the shooting death of an armored truck guard in 2008.
The jury in Greensboro returned the verdict against Isaam Mattaay Chaplin today. Jurors also found Chaplin guilty of armed robbery.
Chaplin was accused of shooting 25-year-old Juan Esteban Salado on Dec. 15, 2008, as he left an Old Navy store at a Greensboro shopping center. Police said Chaplin once worked at the store.
Salado worked two jobs to support his son.
Lawyers for Chaplin are offering character witnesses on Wednesday as the jury considers whether he should die for the killing.
