SALISBURY — Police charged a 19-year-old man Friday morning after authorities said he broke into the YMCA on Jake Alexander Boulevard last week.
According to a Salisbury Police report, Freeman Franklin Payton III, of Milford Hills Road, ran from officers when they responded to a break-in alarm on April 17.
Officers said Payton was leaving through the front door when police arrived, but fled on foot behind the YMCA at 828 West Jake Alexander Blvd.
Nothing was reported stolen, according to the original report. A supplementary report was not available Friday morning.
Police arrested Payton at his home just after midnight Friday.
He was charged with felony breaking and entering, felony larceny and resisting, obstructing or delaying a public officer.
He was in jail under a $26,000 bond.
Payton was in the news earlier this year when he tried to call a “time out” during a sentencing hearing before Judge Marshall Bickett. Deputies said a courtroom officer used a Taser on Payton after he began yelling at the judge, telling him, “Hold up. Time out. That’s beat up.”
