The Men of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 205 St. Paul’s Church Road, are sponsoring on April 28 a benefit for Steven Raywood, a member battling cancer.

Organ dedication
First United Church of Christ will host a program celebrating the dedication of the new organ on Sunday, April 29 at 3 p.m., featuring the music of Rodney Barbour.
Barbour has performed with the Holiday on Ice Orchestra and the Ringling Brothers-Barnum and Bailey Circus Band, has performed on the Mighty Wurlitzer Organ and was the official organist of the Cincinnati Reds at Riverfront Stadium from 1987-1998.

First Calvary Baptist
A program titled The Twelve Keys will be presented at First Calvary Baptist Church, 400 S. Long St., at 3 p.m. today, April 21.
The program features speakers from area churches, including Dr. Maxine Broadway, Michelle Reid, Sheila Abrams, Agnes Gray, Beatrice Brown, Lovene Roberson, Cynthia Johnson, Sue Patton, Shirley Oliver, Tavonna McNeil, Doris Washington and Ernestine Fortune. Two mystery keys will be depicted by Lillie Stockton Cynthia Dillingham.
Native American day
KANNAPOLIS — Trinity UMC will be observing Native American Sunday on April 22. The Rev. Robert Mangum will deliver the message at both services, 8:30 a.m. praise and worship and the 10:55 a.m. traditional.
A liturgical dance will be presented by Aubrey Young, dancing to Amazing Grace in Lakota. This service is being coordinated by Rosa Winfree.

Maranatha Bible
Maranatha Bible Church will hold its Spring Missions Conference on Sunday, April 22.
At 9 a.m. is a combined Sunday school session led by Don Barber, board member at Ambassador Camp and retired educator from Sumter, S.C. At 10 a.m. George Schultz, director of Center for Intercultural Training in Union Mills, will be the keynote speaker. He and his wife Kathy have served with CIT for over 17 years providing missionaries with pre-field cross-cultural training.
There will be an “international” covered dish dinner at 11:30; participants are invited to bring dishes from foreign lands. At 12:45 p.m. is a time of praise and worship following by a presentation by local attorney, Bob McLaughlin, describing the Christian persecution around the world.
ASU Trumpet Choir at Union Lutheran
Union Lutheran Church welcomes The Appalachian State University Trumpet Choir at Union Lutheran Church, 4770 Bringle Ferry Road, on Sunday April 22 at 10:30 a.m.
Director Dr. James Stokes will lead the group of nine, which includes Trestan Peck, who is a Franz Merrell Trumpet Scholar. The choir will assist Pastor David Nuottila in leading worship, honoring the relationship between ASU’s music department and Union, and the scholarship as provided by Franklin and Dawn Merrell in memory of their son.
New Gilead Reformed
CONCORD — Dr. John Balmer, president of Training Pastors International, will speak on Sunday, April 22, at New Gilead Reformed Church, 2400 Old Salisbury-Concord Road, at the 11 a.m. service.
He and his wife Jennifer minister in several African countries. A graduate of Wheaton College and Dallas Theological Seminary, he is the founder/president of a ministry which trains thousands of African pastors annually.
Erwin Temple CME
The 86th church anniversary will be observed Sunday at Erwin Temple Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, organized in December 1926 under the Rev. J.S. Miller, who was assigned as pastor by the CME Conference.
The first structure was built in 1929 with twenty-nine charter members. Under the leadership of the Rev. Calvin Smith a new church was built. Construction began July 1, 1996 and was complete by February 1997.
The Rev. Calvin Smith of Winston-Salem will be guest speaker for Sunday morning worship. Erwin Temple Mass Choir will sing. Lunch will be served at 1:30 p.m.
Afternoon worship begins at 3 p.m with Eureka Lodge No. 45 doing the Cornerstone Laying Ceremony. The mortgage burning will also be done during this worship. Guest minister to preach will be Bishop Marshall Gilmore who is retired from the CME Church Conference.

Historic St. George’s
WOODLEAF — The annual service at historic St. George’s Episcopal Church, on Cool Springs Road, will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 22. St. George’s was designated a historic church in 2007 by the Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina. From 1893 through 1906, St. George’s was a chapel of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Woodleaf (established in 1840). The church was built in 1893 and remodeled in 1928.
