SALISBURY — Voters started slowly but began showing up with more frequency Thursday morning at Rowan Public Library headquarters for the first day of early voting.
A handful of campaigners were outside the library’s rear entrance. A volunteer at the ballot station said 30 people had voted by 10:30 a.m.
One of those voters, Salisbury resident Terresa Denton, said early voting helps her avoid the late rush.
“I just like early voting because it gives me a chance to get my civic duty done,” she said.
Denton said Amendment One was another reason she voted.
“That’s something that’s very important to me,” she said. “And I wanted to vote on that.”

Sam Bannister, of Salisbury, also voted Thursday morning.
“People need to take advantage of it,” he said.
He was voting in favor of Amendment One, he said. But he would have voted anyway.
“It’s also a good chance to meet some of the candidates,” he said, “even though sometimes I don’t agree with them approaching you.”
Voting will continue from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today through May 4, and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on May 5 at Rowan Public Library, 201 W. Fisher St. Starting nest week, ballots can also be cast at the East Rowan Library, 110 Broad St., Rockwell and the South Rowan Library, 920 Kimball Road, China Grove. Cabarrus County voters can vote early at the Cabarrus County Board of Elections office, 369 Church St. N, Concord.
