Area sports briefs: Basketball playoffs scheduled to start

Weather permitting, the one-and-done prep basketball playoffs will get under way tonight.
All single games are supposed to start at 7 p.m.
Doubleheaders at Salisbury, Robinson and Harding should have girls games at 6:30 p.m., followed by boys games at 8 p.m.
Single boys games include West Montgomery at North Rowan, West Rowan at Weddington, South Rowan at Statesville and Greensboro Smith at Davie.
WSTP-1490 will broadcast the North boys game.
Single girls games include Concord at Carson, East Rowan at North Iredell, North Rowan at Lake Norman Charter and A.L. Brown at Ledford.
In the doubleheader at Salisbury, the SHS girls will take on South Iredell before the SHS boys face North Lincoln.
In a doubleheader at Concord Robinson, West Rowan’s girls will face the Bulldogs in the opener, with East Rowan’s boys battling the Bulldogs in the nightcap.
A.L. Brown’s boys will play in the second game at Harding after the Harding girls play Marvin Ridge.
First-round winners advance to play on Wednesday with higher seeds at home.

Women’s lacrosse
Catawba played its first-ever home women’s lacrosse match against No. 8 Rollins on Sunday and lost 22-2.
Ebony Mills scored both Catawba goals.
Prep wrestling
Add A.L. Brown’s Arley Flores and Robert Smith to the list of qualifiers for the upcoming 3A state tournament.
Arley Flores was fourth at 145 pounds in the Midwest Regional, while Robert Smith was runner-up at 170.
The state tournament is Feb. 23-25 at Greensboro Coliseum.
Sacred Heart hoops
Sacred Heart’s varsity boys participated in the 50th Annual Shamrock Tournament in Charlotte and lost two games.
In a 47-32 setback to Atlanta’s Immaculate Heart of Mary, Spencer Storey had 10 points and five rebounds. Reilly Gokey had nine points and six steals. Walker Latimer scored eight points. Will Casmus had five rebounds, and Justin Boyd had five points and five steals.
In a 56-40 loss to Chapel Hill’s St. Thomas Moore, Storey made five 3-pointers and scored a career-high 18. Gokey had 11 points. Boyd and Latimer scored five each. Storey had eight rebounds, while Gokey and Bryan Reid had five apiece. Adam Habeeb and Walker Brown played solid defense in both games.
On Friday, Sacred Heart will host the CCISAA All-Star festivities. Players from each team will compete in 3-point, free throw and hot-shot shooting contests. There will also be games between the Eastern and Western Division all-stars, starting at 4 p.m.
Catawba swimming
Catawba’s men’s swimming team finished fifth out of 14 teams in the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships held at Mecklenburg Aquatic Center.
The Catawba women placed ninth out of 13 teams.

Livingstone hoops
Livingstone’s basketball teams are on the road tonight for a CIAA doubleheader at Fayetteville State.
