SALISBURY — Two men were charged Thursday when police reportedly found a pistol and marijuana in a vehicle during a traffic stop.
Officers stopped a white 2012 Chevy Impala about 7:45 p.m. on East Bank Street. Officers said the vehicle was driving without headlights.
The driver was given a warning, but officers found a .22 caliber Beretta pistol in the floorboard near the feet of passenger John Cletis Jackson Jr., 24
Jackson, of 603 Horah St., was charged with carrying a concealed weapon and later charged with felony possession of a firearm by a felon.
He was convicted in 2009 of two felony counts of possession of marijuana.
Jackson was in jail Friday under a $10,000 bond.
Authorities said the Impala was a rental car and the driver was not listed as the renter. The vehicle was later towed.
Officers also found a small amount of marijuana in a plastic bag during the stop.
Authorities said the .09 ounces of marijuana belonged to passenger Adam Gibson.
He was given a citation.
