Deputies: Two found smoking pot in school parking lot

CHINA GROVE — Two men were charged on citations Thursday afternoon after admitting to officers they had been smoking marijuana in the parking lot of an elementary school.
Rowan County Sheriff’s deputies approached the vehicle at Millbridge Elementary, at 155 Ed Deal Road, after receiving calls about a suspicious vehicle.
The driver, 19-year-old Anthony Sheffield, “was crying and blurted out, ‘We’ve been smoking pot, officer,’ ” an arrest report said.
Deputies said the vehicle smelled strongly of marijuana.
A bong, marijuana, a half-empty, 40-ounce beer, scales and other drug paraphernalia were found inside the vehicle, according to the report.
Sheffield, of Kannapolis, was cited for simple possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
The passenger, 28-year-old Gregory Houston, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of an open alcohol container.
Both were released after being cited.
