Catawba placed three players on the Don Hansen Football Committee’s All-Super Region 2 team.
Freshman defensive lineman C.J. Barksdale was a second team pick, while senior linebacker Lakeem Perry and junior DB Jumal Rolle were third team choices.
Barksdale had four sacks and recovered three fumbles. Perry made a team-high 108 tackles. Rolle had two picks and 12 breakups.
Local golf
Baxter Shelton made a hole-in-one at Corbin Hills on Friday. He aced the 145-yard No. 2 hole, using a 5-hybrid.
Larry Hampton, Charlie Broome and Jerry Allmon witnessed the feat.
Salisbury boosters
The SHS Athletic Boosters will meet tonight at 7 p.m. in the school cafeteria.
Softball umps clinic
NSA will hold an umpire clinic at the Salisbury Civic Center on Sunday, Jan. 22. Registration will begin at 10 a.m., with the clinic starting shortly after that and lasting until 2 p.m.
The fee for the clinic is $55. Anyone interested in umpiring any league or tournament play should plan on attending. Rules and mechanics will be taught by Eastern Zone umpire-in-chief Mike Snyder.
This clinic is for slow-pitch officials only. There will be a fast-pitch clinic in Greensboro at a later date.

A.L. Brown wrestling
A.L. Brown wrestlers are 14-3 in dual meets this season.
Freshman Avery Clinding (106 pounds) is 23-2. Sophomore Richard White (113) is 25-5. Senior Patrice Donatien (138) is 23-4.
Senior Tanner Sapp (160) is 14-3. Senior Robert Smith (170) is 21-3. Junior Kyle Cauble is 23-7.
Clinding and Donatien won gold medals at the Tigerland Classic. White and Sapp won silver, while Smith and Cauble claimed bronze.

A.L. Brown football coach Mike Newsome and wife, Laura, welcomed the family addition of Chloe Newsome (5 pounds, 12 ounces) on Jan. 2.
UNC women lose in OTCHAPEL HILL — North Carolina was close to pulling off its third second-half comeback in a row. Instead, the 25th-ranked Tar Heels faltered late offensively.
Missed free throws and layups down the stretch of regulation and overtime opened the door for No. 5 Maryland to escape with a 78-72 victory over North Carolina on Sunday.
The Tar Heels (12-3, 2-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) erased a six-point halftime deficit against the Terrapins, but they couldn’t hold on after taking the lead.
North Carolina made 1 of 3 free throws in the final 1:29 of regulation, then shot 1 of 7 from the floor in overtime.
Chay Shegog scored 20 points to lead the Tar Heels, who led by six in the final two minutes of regulation.
Alyssa Thomas scored 24 points, including a reverse layup that forced overtime, for Maryland (16-3, 3-0).
Duke women romp
DURHAM — Richa Jackson scored a career-high 21 points to help Duke crush N.C. State 83-59.
Tricia Liston added 14 points and a career-high 11 rebounds for the Blue Devils (12-2, 3-0 Atlantic Coast Conference), who had five players score in double figures.
Chelsea Gray added 12 points and eight assists while leading the Blue Devils’ attack.
Duke led the entire game, though the Blue Devils had some trouble putting away the Wolfpack until blowing the game open in the final minutes.
Marissa Kastanek and Bonae Holston each had 12 for the Wolfpack.
