PHILADELPHIA ó Coming off a long layoff, Duke coach Joanne P. McCallie wanted to challenge her team before starting conference play so she scheduled a game at Temple.
After running out to a 17-point halftime lead, the No. 8 Blue Devils had to hold off the Owls in a 65-54 victory on Friday night.
Duke (9-2) wasn’t together much before the holiday either, playing just twice in the last 19 days. The Blue Devils showed no early rust against Temple, jumping out to a 17-point halftime lead before allowing the Owls to climb back in the game.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. ó Sammy Zeglinski scored 20 points and Joe Harris added 18 to help Virginia escape against winless Towson.
Mike Scott, Virginia’s leading scorer coming in at 16.3 points per game, was held to just seven as the Cavaliers (12-1) won their 10th straight game despite shooting just 34.8 percent (16 of 46) from the field.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. ó Ian Hummer had 25 points and 15 rebounds and Douglas Davis had 25 points ó including a pair of 3-pointers in the third overtime ó as Princeton outlasted Florida State 75-73 on Friday night.
The Seminoles trailed by 17 at the half but stormed back to tie the game at 47. Florida State had its chances to win, including Bernard James’ missed free-throw attempt with the game tied at 53 with 1.8 seconds left in the first overtime.
The Seminoles made just 11 of 22 free-throw attempts in Florida State’s first triple-overtime game in history.
