Area sports briefs: Catholic beats Carson

Carson’s volleyball season ended with a 21-25, 27-25, 25-16, 25-20 loss at Charlotte Catholic in the second round of the 3A playoffs on Tuesday night.
It was the third straight year Catholic has ended Carson’s season.
Carson went 21-11, swept its county games and posted its third straight 20-win season under coach Kelan Rogers.
Prep tennis
East Rowan’s strong tennis season ended with a 5-1 loss at Weddington in the second round of the 3A dual team playoffs on Tuesday.
Kayela Wilson won at No. 4 singles for East (15-1).

Prep football
The NCHSAA has notifed Morganton Freedom that it will not be eligible for the state playoffs after an official’s decision to eject five Freedom players for fighting against Chase last Friday.
Freedom still has an opportunity to to provide the NCHSAA more video for review of the incident where five Freedom and two Chase players were ejected.
Freedom is coached by former Northwest Cabarrus coach Mike Helms.
Prep golf
Scores from Monday’s 3A Central Regional in Winston-Salem included East Rowan’s Amy Carlton (108), Tabitha Warren (109), Kathryn Marcum (113), Emily Cleveland (116) and Grace Stokes (124) and West Rowan’s Kayla Boley (112), Kristen Boley (129) and Kelly Boley (130).
College hoops
Catawba will host Athletes in Action on Friday at 7 p.m.
AIA is playing a 14-game schedule in the Carolinas and northern Georgia.
Local golf
The Corbin Hills Ladies Golf Association played in a low gross-low net event.
Becky Isenhour won low gross and was followed by Phyllis Durland and Kristi Laton.
Joan Havill won low net and was followed by Beth Calhoun and Susan Morris.
Low putts were won by Carolynn Ries and Cindy Carmazzi.
College soccer
Fahret Salihovic scored for Pfeiffer’s men’s soccer team in a 1-0 win against North Greenville on Monday.
• The Pfeiffer women’s team routed North Greenville 6-0.
College sports
St. Andrews announced it will become a NAIA member at the end of the year, ending its 23-year stint with Conference Carolinas. St. Andrews is currently a scheduling partner with Conference Carolinas without participating in NCAA Division II.
Middle school football
Knox was crowned conference champions after a 42-0 victory against North Rowan today.
It was the fifth-straight defensive shut out for the Trojans. Cameron Horne had an interception for a touchdown and a sack. Paris Hillie finished with six tackles and two pass break-ups.
On offense, Horne ran for a 44-yard touchdown and had a two-point conversion. Alonzo Sirleaf ran for scores on 26 and 31-yard runs. Quarterback Chris Ingram had a 17-yard touchdown run.
On special teams, Sirleaf had a punt block, which Shaleek Williams picked up and ran in for a touchdown.
Parks and rec
Salisbury Parks and Recreation is extending registration for its Jr. Bobcat Boys Basketball (ages 7-15) through Oct. 28 or until spots are filled.
Register at Hall Gym. Cost is $35 for city residents and $50 for non-residents.
