A Salisbury man was in serious condition Monday after being shot in the stomach Sunday morning during a party on Brenner Avenue.
Miguel Urrutia, 20, was shot in the stomach at VFW Post 3006, 1200 Brenner Ave., about 1:50 a.m., according to Salisbury Police.
Livingstone College student Ashton Artis Howell applied for the permit and told police she was throwing the party for Livingstone alumni, said the collegeís spokeswoman Laurie Willis.
This weekend was the historically black collegeís homecoming, but Willis said the party at the VFW was not part of the celebration.
ěThe party on Brenner Avenue was not sanctioned by Livingstone Collegeís Office of Student Affairs,î Willis said in a statement.
A police report said more than 300 were at the Brenner Avenue party. Just before 2 a.m., a crowd came running out of the building, police said, yelling that someone had started shooting.
Urrutia was taken to Rowan Regional Medical Center, but was later transferred to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. He was listed in serious condition Monday afternoon.
Willis said Urrutia is not a student at the college.
Livingstone did have a sanctioned party in Old Trent Gym on campus, Willis said.
ěA party was held on Livingstoneís campus Saturday night in conjunction with other homecoming activities, and that party was incident free,î Willis said in a statement.
No arrests have been made in the case. No other details were released by police, citing the pending investigation.
