BOONE ó DeAndre Presley threw for a touchdown and ran for another as the Mountaineers crushed Savannah State 41-6 on Saturday night.
Up 10-0 after the first quarter, Presley followed up a 48-yard touchdown pass to Brian Quick with a 2-yard rushing score to help Appalachian State (2-1) take a 27-0 halftime lead.
The Mountaineers had a 34-0 advantage with 5:53 left to play in the third quarter after Steven Miller’s 3-yard scoring run.
Presley finished 11 of 17 passing with 186 yards and added 21 yards on seven carries for the Mountaineers.
Quick had 81 yards on five receptions with one TD, bringing his career total to 24 ó one shy of the all-time school record.
Elon 23, North Carolina Central 22.
DURHAM ó Thomas Wilson threw for the game-winning touchdown and 416 yards in Elon’s 23-22 win over North Carolina Central.
Georgia 59, Coastal Carolina 0
ATHENS, Ga. ó David Bennett said Coastal Carolina left Sanford Stadium with more than a big check.
The $475,000 payout for agreeing to play at Georgia is important, but Bennett said his players also will benefit from Coastal Carolina’s first game against a Southeastern Conference opponent.
The coach said mistakes by his Chanticleers, including three turnovers, gave Georgia too much help as the Bulldogs rolled to a 59-0 win on Saturday.
Coastal Carolina’s enrollment is 8,700 and the capacity of its home stadium is 9,102. The attendance at Sanford Stadium was 91,946, a little shy of Georgia’s normal sellout, but still a dramatic experience for the FCS team from the Big South Conference.
