nSeries: South leads 6-3

nLast week: South allowed 36 points in the first half and lost 56-14 to Salisbury; West Iredell took a hard-fought 13-10 decision against 4A Lake Norman
nNext week: South is home against West Rowan; West Iredell is at East Rowan
nGame notes: Itís the NPC opener for both teams. West Iredell was viewed as a contender when the season started and pre-conference play hasnít changed that thinking, even though the Warriors have been hard to figure out.
They won a defensive battle with Lake Norman last week, but theyíve also played a 55-48 game and came out on the short end of that one against Wilkes Central.
West Iredellís other loss was to South Iredell, which is one of the elite teams in 2A this season. Its other victory was an easy season-opening win against East Surry.
Senior quarterback Sayer Robinson is the triggerman for coach Mark Weyckerís team. Heís thrown nine TD passes and is closing in on 1,000 passing yards for the season.
D.J. Gray and Vincent Davidson are among his top targets. As is usually the case, the Warriors have a collection of skill-position people as good as any in the league.
South has overmatched by speed teams A.L. Brown and South Rowan this season and is up against another team tonight that will have superior speed.
If Southís going to be competitive, it needs a big game from QB Nathan Lambert (the county passing leader with 742 yards) and pass-catchers Josh Medlin, Brandon Williams, Logan Beck and Dominic Garlin.
