Council to swear in interim city manager at Tuesday meeting

SALISBURY ó City Council will administer the oath of office Tuesday to Interim City Manager Doug Paris after todayís retirement of David Treme, who served as city manager for more than 25 years.
City Council will administer the oath at 4 p.m. in City Hall, 217 S. Main St.
Next week, the cityís search firm, Springstead and Associates, will begin carrying out the Councilís directive to solicit input from residents about what they want in a new city manager.
Springstead will host a meeting at 5 p.m. Aug. 10 in City Hall to receive input concerning the qualities, qualifications and experience City Council should consider when selecting the next leader of city government.
The public is encouraged to attend.

Also at Tuesdayís meeting, City Council will:
Recognize the student participants in the Summer Youth Employment Program.
Consider awarding a $196,500 contract to Carolina Industrial Equipment for the purchase of a Johnston model VT-650 Street Sweeper.
Consider awarding a $91,705 contract to James River Equipment for the purchase of a John Deere 410J Backhoe Loader.
Consider authorizing the mayor to execute a Supplemental Municipal Agreement with the North Carolina Department of Transportation for a time extension for construction of Grants Creek Greenway Phase 2, Project EB-3308.
