NEW YORK ó Kris Jenkins was prepared to attempt yet another comeback. And, he dared anyone to doubt that heíd be able to pull it off.
But after a career filled with dominant moments and frustrating injuries, the big and charismatic defensive tackle decided his body had been through enough.
Jenkins announced his retirement on his Facebook page Wednesday after his last two seasons with the New York Jets were cut short by serious knee injuries.
ěWanted to let you all know that I have loved the support and respect that you all have given me throughout my career,î Jenkins wrote. ěBut it is time for the torch to be passed to the younger players. I am going to hang up the cleats!î
Jenkins, whoíll be 32 on Aug. 3, was released by the Jets in a cost-cutting move. In the end, the four-time Pro Bowl selection chose to focus on life after football.
The 6-foot-5, 360-pound Jenkins began his career with the Carolina Panthers in 2001 after they drafted him in the second round out of Maryland. He quickly became a dominant interior defensive lineman, and helped Carolina to the Super Bowl against New England in 2004.
RETIREEES SUE
LOS ANGELES ó Mark Duper, Ottis Anderson and 73 other former players sued the National Football League, claiming it concealed information about the danger of concussions for decades.
The negligence, fraud and liability suit was filed Tuesday in Los Angeles Superior Court. Many players’ wives also are plaintiffs.
The suit alleges the NFL knew as early as the 1920s of the harmful effects of concussions but concealed them from coaches, trainers, players and the public until June 2010. It also names helmet-maker Riddell, the NFL’s official helmet supplier.
MCMAHON WRECK
RENO, Nev.ó Former NFL quarterback Jim McMahon has been released from a Nevada hospital after he was injured in a crash in a limousine on the way from Lake Tahoe to the airport.
McMahon and girlfriend, Lori Navon, who were injured along with the driver on Monday when the limo swerved off U.S. Highway 395 in Pleasant Valley and crashed through a barbed-wire fence into a drainage ditch.

PHILADELPHIA ó The endorsements keep on coming for Eagles quarterback Michael Vick.
On Wednesday, Vick, who signed with Nike earlier this month, became an equity partner in Double Eagle Holdings, Ltd., the parent company of Fuse Science, Inc. And as part of the agreement, Vick will endorse Fuse Science and its line of sports nutrition vitamins and minerals.
