SPENCER ó Calvary Lutheran Church, 303 Fifth St., is hosting a benefit dinner for Scott Butler and his family, today, Saturday, June 25, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Scott has a malignant brain tumor. Recently married, Scott and Sheena have four children. Calvary is hoping to raise funds to help the family with medical bills.
The dine in or take out meal is hot dogs, baked beans, dessert, drinks and fixings for $6 for adults, $3 for children ages 4-12 and age 3 and under are free. Door prizes will be given each hour, tickets are $1 or $5 for six. You do not need to be present to win.
Mt Zion Missionary
Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Salisbury celebrates its 144th annual homecoming this weekend. Events begin today, June 25, at 11 a.m. with a community fellowship picnic on the church campus with residents of the surrounding neighborhood as invited special guests. Activities include a church history exhibit and slide show, recreation, and free food.
The Creative Expressions Ministry, Kingdom Builders Voices of Praise of Mount Zion, and the Rev. Dr. Nilous M. Avery II, pastor, will lead the 10:55 worship.
The Rev. William H. Clayton, pastor of St. James Missionary Baptist Church of Henderson, will speak.

Prayer Day
The Salisbury-Rowan County Missionary Union will observe the 30th annual Missions Prayer Day of the Womanís Baptist Home and Foreign Missionary Convention of North Carolina on Saturday at noon.
Saint Luke Baptist Church, 500 Hawkinstown Road, will host this event. All ladies are asked to wear white.
Homiletics conference
THOMASVILLE ó United Cornerstone School of Divinity (UCSoD) continues its second annual Homiletics Conference today, June 25 at Citadel of Faith Christian Fellowship, 7 and 9 JW Thomas Way, with sessions on Capturing the Sermon Idea, Biblical Interpretation and Addressing Textual Problems. The concluding Conference Proclamation Event will begin at 2:30 p.m.
Conference facilitators include Professors Nicole Roach, Dr. T. Marquis Ramsey, Dr. J.H. Carter and Dr. George B. Jackson, president.

Jerusalem Baptist
Jerusalem Baptist Church will observe Menís Day on Sunday. The Rev. John Bankhead will deliver preach at 11 a.m. with music by the Jerusalem Menís choir.
Lunch will be served at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. Dr. Joel E. Clark of New Saint Paul Baptist Church of Eden will speak for the 3 p.m. service.
Messiah Lutheran
Messiah Lutheran Church, 701 E. Lafayette St., host missionaries Justin and Kari Eller from La Paz, Bolivia, Sunday, June 26.
The Rev. Eller will preach at the 11 a.m. service. A covered dish lunch in the fellowship hall follows the service. The Ellers will give a presentation on their mission work and share the ways God is touching the lives of Lutherans in Bolivia.
Antioch Baptist
GRANITE QUARRY ó The women of Antioch Baptist Church, 602 S. Salisbury Ave., will observe their annual Womenís Day on Sundayat 11 a.m. Speaking will be Sherry Stowe Ford, associate pastor of Gethsemane Baptist Church.
Mt. Zion Baptist Boyden Quarters
MT. ULLA ó Mt. Zion Baptist Church Boyden Quarters, 1765 White Road, will hold the first pastoral anniversary celebration for Pastor and First Lady Corey Barr on Sunday, June 26. The 11 a.m. speaker will be Pastor Paul Corley of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.
The anniversary will continue at 5 p.m. with speaker Pastor Quentin Boger of Word of Reconciliation Ministries.
Henderson Grove
Henderson Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Henderson Grove Road, will hold its annual Mission Day Sunday June 26. Pastor Perry Dye will deliver the morning message. The 3 p.m. message will be given by Evangelist Alice Perry.
Erwin Temple CME
COOLEEMEE ó Erwin Temple CME Church will observe homecoming beginning with Sundayís morning service with pastor The Rev. Ervin L. Hannah Jr. speaking. Music will be provided by the Mass Choir and musician Travis Williams. Lunch will be served at 2 p.m.
Guest minister for the 2 p.m. service is the Rev. Burrel Brooks, pastor of St. John Baptist Church. Brooks has hosted and produced the gospel program ěOpportunity Knocksî and ěOutreachî on TV station WTVI-42 in Charlotte.
Homecoming continues with a three-night revival June 27-29. Mondayís speaker is the Rev. John Cade, pastor of Files Chapel Baptist of Lexington; Tuesday features the Rev. Derek Kelly of New Faith Full Gospel Deliverance Center of Lexington and Wednesdayís speaker is the Rev. Dr. C. L. Phelps of Gethsemane Missionary Baptist of Salisbury. Services at 7 p.m. nightly.
Love Christian Center
EAST SPENCER ó Love Christian Center, 102 Long St., will hold Youth Day services Sunday June 26, at 3 p.m. The speaker will be Pastor Glenn Usry of Statesville.
Halls Temple
Halls Temple Church on North Long Street will hold its annual Menís Day on Sunday, at 3:30 p.m. Speaking will be the Rev. Louis Walker of Rose of Sharon Church.
Crown In Glory VBS
Crown In Glory Lutheran Church, 517 E. Bank St., will hold vacation Bible school June 27-July 1 from 6-8:30 p.m. with a theme of ěHometown Nazareth: Where Jesus was a Kid.î The groups will be divided into several of the 12 tribes of Israel and each ětribeî will contain ages from pre-school to adult. A closing program will be held Friday, July 1 at 7 p.m.
