Salisbury’s Alex Nianouris and Troy Beaver played in the U.S. Junior Amateur sectional qualifier held at Asheboro’s Pinewood Country Club.
Nianouris shot 75-71 — 146, while Beaver shot 72-75 — 147.
The cut for four qualifiers and two alternates was 139.
The Corbin Hills Ladies Golf Association played a low gross-low net event on Tuesday.
Phyllis Durland won low gross and was followed by Kristi Laton. Low net went to Cathy Fleming. Next was Bev Cobb.
Mary Seaford won low putts.
• Seventy GARS members played at Crescent on Monday.
Low ‘A’ flight player was Dale Cobb with a net of 65.89.
Low ‘B’ flight player was Dick Hatoway with a net of 69.57.
Low ‘C’ flight player was Bobby Bryant with a net of 67.08.
Low ‘D’ flight player was Nelson McDaniel with a net of 67.73.
Minor leagues
Wilmington’s Whit Merrifield (Davie) was named to the Carolina League all-star team that will play the California League all-stars on June 21 in Modesto, Calif.
Daniel Wagner (South Rowan) hit his fourth double of the season for Winston-Salem on Tuesday and scored a run in an 8-3 loss to the Frederick Keys.
• Jerry Sands (Catawba) singled home a run in the third inning in the second game of Alburquerque’s doubleheader against Oklahoma City. Alburquerque was swept in the double header by losses of 5-3 and 2-0.
The Kannapolis Intimidators beat Delmarva 5-1 on a 12th-inning grand slam by Dan Black. The homer was Black’s 11th. John Spatola hit a solo homer in the first for the Intimidators. Dexter Carter pitched six scoreless innings.
• The Winston-Salem Dash fell 8-3 at the hands of the Fredrick Keys Tuesday after committing six errors that led to four unearned runs. The game included 10 errors, five unearned runs and five hit batsmen.
Wood bat leagues
Alex Litaker (East Rowan, Brevard) and Forrest Buchanan (Salisbury, Belmont Abbey) are pitching for the Carolina Hurricanes in the Carolina-Virginia Collegiate League.
Litaker has made three scoreless relief appearances and saved a 5-4 win against the Fuquay Twins on Monday by getting out of a bases-loaded jam.
• J.J. Jankowski (Catawba) struck out 13 in seven innings for the Thomasville HiToms in a 4-2 win at Wilmington Tuesday for his third consecutive quality start. Jankowski allowed five hits and two runs in the win.
Justin Roland (East, Charlotte) has scored four runs in four games for the Statesville Owls of the Southern Collegiate Baseball League.
